Need a PC. Thinking about building one. Ideas?

I like Windows 7, I can't use a Mac.
I NEED 3 monitors
I want 8 gigs of RAM or more.
I multitask like a motherfucker.

I don't do any gaming, but I do render vids occasionally and I use photoshop/dreamweaver/and a few others simultaneously, and I'd like the option of using them all at the same time.

The ability to crank iTunes while running PS, DW, and whatever else I want all at the same time would rock.

Where the fuck do I start?

I like ncix.com

Pick something that has the basic specs you want in their PC builder, then go in and change out the parts you don't like.

http://pc.ncix.com/pcbuilder/

If I were you, I would start with their corei7 extreme system and modify as you see fit.

The core i7 is a great start, but I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how to get my 3 monitors to work - and they don't give convenient links to their motherboards to figure out if I need to double up my vid cards, if it's an option, etc.

Copy pasting + google = hours of research SUCKS.

Thanks though

If you click the question mark link beside your choice of motherboard it will open a new page that gives details on the motherboard you currently have selected.

We use Voodoo Computers. They got bought out by HP recently. But they can tweek and setup the best pc's on the planet. Worth checking them out

edit: I should note that they are not cheap but it would be money well spent

"Dell" is the reason I'm here.

Just paid a G-note for an i-7 with 8 gigs and Windows 7, which is what I want... but I can't get 3 monitors to work on it.

And they won't help me. So I'm here at GFY.

everything you can get on PC you can get on Mac these days. Macs are higher quality, better OS, better hardware... Why cant you get a Mac? My guess, your business is sponsored by Windows, which is sad

My business is sponsored by the people I serve, who happen to be primarily windows users.

I didn't make the rules, I'm just making the best of what I have. And what I have is a customer base that is primarily using Windows, so I need to use Windows.

Now, I still need a badass computer hopefully less than 2k.

I was gonna build one, but i just got a PC from newegg... I priced all the parts and it would be MORE EXPENSIVE to build it myself.. I paid $2k even for this pc..

Here are some specs

Processor Intel Core i7 960(3.2GHz) (that cpu alone is ~$600)
Memory 12GB DDR3 1600 (~$500)
HD: 1.5TB Sata (~$100)
O/S Win7 64bit
Mobo is around $300
ATI Radeon HD 5870 ($500)
Liquid cooled case

Total already is around $1,500.. and we DIDNT ADD SHIPPING FOR ANYTHING, which would be at least another $100+ because the case and power supply is like 30lb and i didnt add the huge power supply, case, dvd player, bluetooth, If i were to add those things i'll say it'll come to an additional $400 or so.. the case alone retails for $200+

So far total to build it myself is at least $1,900. i paid $100 extra.. they built it, warranty one year.. im happy

My review:

This computer is on steroids.. it hasnt ran anything slow and its been running 2 weeks now.. No fucking lag anywhere, i click internet explorer, it pops right open, i open dreamweaver.. no delay..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883227210

I 100% recommend it

if you want each screen run on separate video card here's a mobo with 3 PCI ports
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=...fa5a86ee08ea7b
this mobo is about year old or so no SATA3 though

then there are video cards that support more than two monitors. if you do serious rendering - better to dedicate separate powerful video card specifically just for that. and have dual screens running on another card for less intense graphic processing, most modern mobos have 2PCI slots and support lots of gigs of ram. just find a right combo for your specific needs.

You'll have to get 64bit. Unless you want to have 75% of your RAM not doing anything.

All the software you could ever need or want for a Mac can be found on a single website: MacUpdate.com

PC users are relegated to scrounging on torrent sites or Goog searches to thousands of sites all over the place.

Mac = organized production & precision.
PC = hobby users.

That power supply seems dinky considering the juice your dual 1 GB video cards are going to use. If you start getting BSOD, it is likely going to be a power issue.

64 bit of course. If for some odd reason you still want to put 32bit on there then there is no point in buying 12gbs of ram since you will only able to use 3 gb of it.

here is my experience after building my entire rendering array.
Just by a top of the like dell, gateway, or HP, add a second graphics card and you're good.
You only need to build your own if you want raids and stuff like that.
Save your money and time and please take my advice.

Keep believing but stop making false claims because of your own ignorance.

PCs rule. Buy a Mac and pay twice as much for everything......with half the selection.

if using multiple monitors and multitasking is a priority, you can buy 2 weaker pcs, most of graphic cards have 2 outputs, and combine them with synergy program synergy2.sourceforge.net it allows you to control 2 or more computers with 1 mouse and keyboard.
