Butthurt by Facebook? An emo diatribe on FB's continuing privacy fiasco
There's been tons of drama lately regarding Facebook's continuing privacy protection (or lack thereof) issues. For example, Mahalo.com and pioneer blog network publisher Jason Calcanis' recent letter http://calacanis.com/2010/05/12/the-...ing-your-hand/ Do you think the recent privacy snafus are part of an opportunistic plan or is Zuckerberg on to something bigger and better? |

				 | FB is set to give the big G more of a run for the money than most people give them credit for. With more and more big sites allowing you to "sign in" using your Facebook ID, and the inclusion of the like buttons on more and more big sites. they have the stage set to become THE net "passport" or "open id" whatever you want to call it. They have such an enormous amount of user data it is unreal. Even in the face of criticism over their privacy issues, they will continue to grow. There's nowhere to go but up for FB right now. The potential for FB's like button to build an entirely new and user driven search is a whole other can of worms. Really, I don't see any of these privacy issues doing anything to stop them. People are just too stupid to give a fuck enough to sever their dearest FB from their lives. And like it or not, as it becomes an accepted standard to use FB as your online passport, more and more people will find themselves using it whether they like it or not... |

				 | I think for sure that information is being collected from Facebook for many purposes. I also saw an educational video about the Internet that says it's best to assume there is no privacy on the Internet. Anyone can view your facebook account.

				 | I have always wondered about people publishing their photos, personal info, interests etc online public for everyone and THEN cry and worry about privacy. |

				 | The thing I HATE about FB is it seems 90% of the people are into 'Farmville' 'Mafia Wars' etc rather than using it as a real family type social network. Sometimes all the post are trivial bullshit game posts. Not real life info. |

				 | The majority of the posts on facebook is about doing the laundry and stuff like that so it's no great loss if the whole ship sank to the bottom. |

and in the same way Google seems to have searching sewn up I think facebook is going to be very hard to beat. You can have all the privacy settings set to only god can see but it's worth fuck-all if you are so addicted to the site you login from any computer you go past.
