Would you recommend...

So far, I've always always used windows machines.

I'm wondering whether I should invest in a mac.

Are they actually any better? Faster? Smoother?
I do a bit of design stuff, lots of web surfing, bit of coding. Just want something that can handle it all without being buggy like windows (although I dont know if macs are any less buggy).

Thanks

Mac was built for dummies Now days I don't know how the OS is but im pretty sure its dummy proof. And that can really be a good thing. Hard to break by messing with things, Little to no virus out there etc. Limited number of programs that run on them that you are used to. So they have good and bad things.

Next question... would you say the whole build procedure from a mac is worth a purchase or would it be just worth getting the OS to run on one of my current machines?

Fiddler, you should answer to the questions like your last one by yourself.

if you start from zero with mail, icq etc. you can choose whatever you want. also when you dont depend on a network with mostly windows machines. but if you have to work in a windows environment and need your mails from outlook etc. stick to Windows

and regarding bugs: windows 7 and mac os are totally equal - no software is perfect.

I have a Mac Pro with all of the available options. I have no regrets. People that tell you you're overpaying for a Mac are usually the same people who use coupons at the grocery store. I got a good machine at a reasonable price, and I run Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux on it without any complaints at all. It's quiet, too, which is a HUGE switch from my Falcon Northwest, Alienware, and Voodoo machines.

I have both. I find for personal surfing and fucking around the mac is awesome, but I still spend the vast bulk of my time the Vaio. It's not really a performance issue, they both seems to be equals, but I'm accustomed to using a PC, using a PC mouse and PC shortcuts. Really its the learning process which I just haven't invested the time into yet. I'm sure if the Vaio died and I only had the mac I would probably adapt faster in a forced environment. I know it's not that different between one and the other, just the little things that are tripping me up.
