Djokovic stuns Federer

Simply stunning match between Federer and Djokovic. Djokovic played the match of his life. It's a shame we don't get to see another Federer Nadal final but Djokovic deserved it. Now Nadal will hopefully get his grand slam and be considered one of the top 3 greatest players of all time.

Great match! But Djokovic managed to defend 2 match points and he deserved to win!
Federer played pretty good too... excellent game!

This was definitely the best match Djokovic has ever played. I fully expected him to fold time and time again on all those break points. Federer didn't have that great of a game and he would have been massacred by Nadal had he played like this against him. At the same time had Federer won, the final would have been the most important tennis match in history.

Djokovic definitely earned the level of respect he deserves for his rank, and as much as I'd have liked to see a Fedal final, if Djokovic plays that well, the match may be just as good if not better. Ever since Fed lost that epic Wimbledon final against Nadal, it's been pretty evident Nadal is his kryptonite on any surface so I'm not sure it would have been that great of a match.

Which is why I think Nadal will become the greatest player of all time and will surpass 16 grand slam titles. He has adapted to each surfaced, he has become a HUGE server in just weeks, and his mental toughness is unparalleled.

The guy's athleticism and perseverance on every point certainly seems unparalleled in history, though that said, Federer's seeming effortlessness with how he plays is equally amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if Nadal keeps it up and surpasses Fed's slams but at the moment it's a toss-up to me on who is the best player of all time. Just the fact that today's Fed match was only the 7th time EVER that he's lost in a slam after winning the first set is just incredible...he was something like 192-6 in GS matches he's won the first set in prior to today's. Djokovic really beat the odds.

The question of greatest ever is really difficult to answer. For instance, I think Sampras was better than Federer because he played in a better era and even in his mid to late 30s, his serve and game were amazing, where I don't think Federer will be even remotely as good in 5+ years. On the other hand, Sampras never won the French Open. On the other hand, Federer only won it when Nadal got injured. On the other hand, Bjord had 11 grand slams by the time he was 24 and retired at 26, meaning he could have had 20. On the other hand, I don't think Bjorg won the US Open. Anyways, it's all a toss up but I think potentially, Rafa can be the greatest ever.
