alcohol dehydrates your body cells very fast
you need to drink lots of liquid to compensate or you get what it called "hangover"

I had an old hippie friend that would drink half water, half vodka with ice. Easier to hide the drinking that way, plus alcohol dehydrates you so the water helps.

I have had alcohol poisoning like effects from everclear, before. The next day wasn't really like a hangover, it was very very peaceful. Like when a woman is done doing a blowjob for you, and you can't really move around or talk very much, but even better. No one could get a pulse on me and I couldn't feel my own heart beating.

It was amazing!

That has happened to me several times when I drank way too much and it's an incredible experience...

The only reason you'd water down your liquor is so that you can keep up with your Irish and/or Scottish friends - or to avoid passing out at the feet of your enemies.

A trend that originated in England, I believe.

Is it easier on your body? Good question. I think the effect on your body is all about how much alcohol you drink. For example, vodka is 40% alcohol. Beer can be 5% alcohol. This means that if you dilute vodka with a lot of water, you can make it a 5% drink. Think about the effect on your body in terms of how many liters of alcohol you drink. Consider that every person has different weight. Think about the alcohol % in the body.

I think one main reason is to make is less harsh. A lot of people like the taste of some boozes, but they can't handle how harsh it is. Mix it with water and it dilutes it down some and makes it easier to drink without having to add something else that has flavor to it.

I switched from 7-Up to seltzer water to mix with my vodka to get rid of all the chemicals and the high fructose corn syrup in 7-Up. Much better tasting brew also!

There are some scotches that are better with water. The water "opens up the flavor".

Personally I just use ice and let it melt a little though.

Vodka and club soda with a lime in it works well. I still like to binge drink like a retard, but my pathetic body can't handle the sugar anymore.

I used to be a rum and coke man but I think I was probably pretty close to going into a diabetic coma a few times.

If I'm drinking straight up, I will usually mix my first drink with water, it kills the taste and makes it go down easier...

From there, the rest go down smooth without the water.
I've got a think for straight Crown Royal, but the first glass is always fuckin' nasty.

I drink Jameson rocks... I always let the Jameson settle for a bit, brings out the flavor a bit more. After 4-5 deep if it's a long drinking night I'll start mixing in full glasses of water in between cocktails to keep the hangovers away. I've finally recently learned to stop mixing drinks... if I start Jameson, I'm not doing shots of vodka or whatever concoctions people come up with.
