In Australia successive Governments have bet the bank on the rise of China as the dominant economic force in the world, eventually the US will be a player much more akin to Europe as a pervasive yet not dominant economic force.

You may not like it, many here don't, but there is little debate anymore over it becoming reality.

It's unlikely any collapse in US economic fortunes will be global. To believe this is to have such a maladjusted view of the importance of the US contribution to the global economy that it borders on pathological.

While the US has great influence in many areas, it no longer dominates economically the way it used to. Over the years many countries have adapted to that shift and survived the great GFC relatively unscathed.

Based on personal observation, I still believe it's more profitable to sell junks (China) to the world than to sell technology (the US) to the world! Everyone needs junks (cheap neccessities)... Everyone needs junks (cheap neccessities)... China sold so much junks to walmart. However, technology can be easily duplicated across border. Yea, one may argue that you have patent and shit... but look around all these asian countries, they can easily make some changes on the technolgy and came out with something similar or totally different. The profitability for technology product has been declining since the start of information age... __________________

I have been hearing about this so called collapse of society being just a few years away for more than 20 years. We are always just around the corner from this collapse and every new president somehow matches up with some kind of prophecy from some guy and we are all doomed. So can we get on with it already? Or in a couple of years will we have a new reason to be just a few years away?
