The BEST link tracking software?

I've asked this a few times over the years, and I've never really got a straight answer that worked. So I'll ask again as it pops into my head. What is the BEST link tracking software for tracking THOUSANDS of links? Is there anything out there, open source or otherwise, that can handle, say, hundreds of thousands of links?

I agree, LinksOrganizer is better than LinkEx, but still can take a big dick up the ass if someone feels like giving it to them. Best not to use EITHER on any site you really care about in my opinion.

Anyhow, this is not the type of linking I'm worried about. Maybe I should have said "click trackers" as opposed to "link tracker". I'm talking more along the lines of tracking outbound clicks to affiliate links with programs that don't offer me any type of tracking to know where my traffic is going exactly. Say I deep link to 20,000 products within an affiliate shop, and I want to know which items are hot with my traffic. How in the fuck am I supposed to know if they don't tell me?

I can track the flow of traffic through my site analytics setup, I can see which pages get the most views, and what topics are hot on-site, but how do I know which outbound links are getting the most action? I've dabbled with a half dozen or so different freebie click trackers to track clicks, and everything seems to start sputtering out once I cross the threshold of a couple thousand links in the database.

Is there nothing available that can tackle a large database of links to track?

lots of people already abusing these systems. not going to go into detail, but let's just say you should be manually checking all your exchanges are legit once in a while. Relying on the automated system is foolish as fuck.

You want to track a large database of links, number of views & clicks, and so on, correct? Is it ok if they're cloaked URLs? So instead of linking directly to your sponsor, they'll goto http://www.yourdomain.com/go/36/236/235, which then of course will redirect to your sponsor.

From there, will even download sales stats from your sponsors if wanted. You'll see reports of views, clicks, sales, rebills, refunds, chargebacks, etc. for every single link, page, domain and sponsor that you're promoting. Set the display weight of each set to 20%, and easily see which performs better.

Or just simply generate 50,000 link codes for whatever you want, and plug them into your sites as desired. If wanted, attach sponsor accounts to the links as well, so you can see sales ratios for each link & type.

Anything under 500,000 links should work without problem. Anything over that, we'd have to look at your server infrastructure. Is that the type of thing you're looking for, or not really? Maybe I'm off base here.

That's essentially what I'm aiming for yes. The sponsor stats and analytics support would be a nice bonus. I use Piwik though, as my Google paranoia doesn't lend well to using their analytics platform. Odds are I won't push more than 100k links, probably between 5-20k on average. Piwik tracks outbound clicks automatically. For specific action you can also use goals. And next to that there is also a good and easy to use PHP class that can be used to track about anything you want.

I might have to take a better look through the system. I know how to follow the user actions, and see outbound clicks, never noticed any way to bring up the outbound click statistics though. When you say there is a class, do you mean one that works as an extension of Piwik, or something separate? Thanks for the tip.

Hrmm, I am seeing some outlink tracking plugins and stuff on Piwik's Dev page. Will look further into that setup as I already use Piwik for my analytics. Thanks again for the tip.

Any self hosted script that checks links via a server or IP is easily scammed.

IP + Cloak for fake recips and away you go. Free links.

Main issue with all self hosted link checking software, unless it randomly rotates IP's you are probably getting assfucked on link trades with a 30 second cloak set up.

Check this page http://piwik.org/docs/tracking-api/, section 'PiwikTracker PHP Class API'.

You should use that method if you cant use the JavaScript/Image/CSS methods. If you get the PHP class (link on the same page) you should use the method 'public function doTrackAction'. That method is used to track downloads and outbound links.

By using this method you basically have all flexibility to register whatever outbound link you want. In combination with campaign tracking (piwik_campaign and piwik_kwd parameters) it's very powerful.

Use http://dev.piwik.org/trac/wiki/API/Reference if the statistics reporting of Piwik is not sufficient. It is so flexible that I use that for a new toplist script I have written (for instance NaughtyCamToplist.com, based on LO and Piwik).

Hope you can figure it out.

Ya, I started doing some reading already, and will be looking into this further. Sounds like it should handle everything I want it to and more if I can get it setup. Thanks for bring it to my attention.
