p2p DNS system being developed (Getting a lot of publicity)

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscente...e_ica nn.html

The start

http://dot-p2p.org/index.php?title=Main_Page

One of the biggest fears of net technicians was that COICA, domain seizures, etc would fracture the global DNS. I have no idea who is developing it (apart from one of the guys from The Pirate Bay), but if they do a reasonable job, with the press they are already getting, and with the extra press they will get around COICA, etc I am sure it will fly.

As for the future, they've talked about additionally building a more centralized DNS attached to the p2p system. Will be interesting to see what comes of it.

As I've said before if people are willing to download utorrent to access movies for free, they will do this.

Depends I guess. From the small amount I read a lot of the discussion is about security, trust/reputation based network, etc. It will be one of the issues, but that is always an issue with p2p in general. It can be overcome.

I figured this would happen soon after they started messing with seizing domains more often. I suspect that if it takes off they will actually try to blacklist such things and perhaps try to pass laws against it. It seems futile and misguided to fight it in this way but this is the government and big business we are talking about here.

Using a proper Web of Trust implementation they can probably make it more secure than the existing (and aging) DNS.
