Mackbook Air 13" + 22" external display

There were rumours it wouldn't do well for a web graphic design and shit. Jeez, people, it was my best decision computer wise EVAH. I regret it didn't do a PC->MAC shift earlier. PC machines are soooooooo shitty you can't even compare joy of working on a Mac to a PC.

To summarise, it works just fine, no swapping at all, quick as deer fuck, quiet as ninja.

If there is a web designer struggling to decide I do support the move, leave any PC the fuck out, get a life!!!!!

You mean as opposed to a mac being completely silent, straight out of the box?

I have a new Macbook Pro laptop and i fucking hate it.

The hard drive is tiny compared to a PC's and its way overpriced.
Sure, it looks nice and clean but if i want to use a wired network or have decent drive space, i have to have adaptors hanging out of it as it doesn't come with an ethernet port and external drives plugged into one of its only two USB ports.

No right click is a fucking pain too as i just cannot get on with the weird trackpad.
For something that cost 4 figures, its been close to being thrown out the window at least a dozen times now.

I hear you about no right click... its like you have no 'control' over the clicks... If you do decide to throw it out the window, please make sure I am outside at the time... I'd also like to hate having a new mac book pro as well

LOL

I am a web graphic designer. I have a macbook air with 256GB drive, and its still have 70% space free. I use external cards and drives at times. That's it. I don't know what is that shit you keep at yours.

PRO is expensive for sure, that's why i went with air.

are you kidding me? a 2 finger tap on the trackpad is a right click. Also, buy a apple smart mouse which behaves exactly like a windows mouse when configured correctly in setting

Hi Sid,

You are 100% Right. Mac's are great computers, especially for Web designers.

I have both Mac's and and a PC in my office. Windows 10 is pretty good compared to previous versions of Windows, but its nothing compared to Mac OS/X. You should buy a Mac and try it out for a few weeks before deciding.

The Apple Magic Mouse works as a 1-button mouse, a 2-button mouse, and as a trackpad. Furthermore, you can use all 3 functions simultaneously, and customize how it works too.

True. My PC is an Alienware Area 51. It's pretty quiet, but my Mac's are even quieter.

All of the Macs, and most modern properly built PC's, are all pretty quiet these days. The SSD Hard drives have no motors so they make no sound at all. The fans can run slowly when the machine isn't too hot, keeping noise down too.

Do this: Go into System Preferences / Trackpad and do this:

Under "Point and Click":
- Disable "Look up and Data Detectors"
- Enable Secondary Click
- Enable "Tap to click"

Under "Scroll and Zoom":
- Disable "Scroll Direction: Natural".
- Enable everything else.

The last item, "Disable "Scroll Direction: Natural", will make a big difference in how you use the trackpad. I didn't like it either until I did this, and then it finally felt natural to me.

That's too bad dude. I used to be a die-hard PC guy until I switched to Mac. If you want some help, send me a PM and I'd be glad to give you some pointers.

Same here. The Pro's are just too big and too expensive. The Macbook Air is PERFECT for me and priced just-right.

All computers can handle nice high res graphics, but you don't really need a gamer computer for web design. I thought about buying the fastest laptop I could afford but then realized that they will be bulkier, heavier, noisier (more fans), etc.

They way I'm setup now is this: I have my desktop computer (Mac + second screen) for all of my usual work (web, graphics, coding). I have my lightweight laptop for writing on the go. My PC is for my PC-only work, and my Xbox is for games.

Fuck... you bought an over 2 year old laptop with a 5th-generation Intel CPU

And why do you pretend like you just switched from PC to Mac? Looks like you were also riding Tim a year ago.

Wasn't hard work to expose your bullshit and old love for Apple. Easy to remember your nick as being one of GFY's loyal Apple apostle for years. Go bend over for Tim and leave us PC owners alone.

I haven't played a computer game in 20 years. Last was Duke Nukem.
I want fast, 17 inch and good videocard and gamers laptop have that.
Ápple is not an alternative, they don't have 17 inch.

This one makes hardly any noise and also very good built in speakers.
With 'normal' laptobs my videocard can't handle it.

I travel around, 1 back up laptop and this one. Also great to watch movies.

Mice for Macs

I use MACALLY mice with my Macs. My Mini's and laptops. 2 buttons and a scroll wheel. I use the wired version, never have to worry about charging or batteries. I never liked track pads.Track pads are too hard to highlight a specific group of cells in Excel.
I also use a Mac keyboard with the number section as I input a lot of numbers. Even on the laptops at home.
27 inch monitor. The laptops are basically for travel.

Speak for yourself in the firs place, 'US"-man. I actually lasted lot more working on a PC then I should have. I regret not switching any sooner.

I so hate Apple for discontinuing 17 inchers! And 15" PROs are fucking expensive. AIR is the only choice for a poor immigrant like me.

Apple, please, why the fuck did you make iPhone SE , gimme a 17" 1920x1080 AIR PLEEEEEEZ!

Downside of desktops is thunder storms or other electrical outages. If the power goes out, the laptop keeps working, but the desktop you loose all unsaved work.

Used to, not anymore. Motorola G4 does it all. Only if iPhone was a bit more flexible - like dual micro sim.... and cheaper, tho, as I mentioned earlier, I still keep iPhone 5 working and looking very well.

Doesn't the MacBook Air only have an i5 CPU? I'm surprised it loads GFY.com

I can relate to OP, MacBooks are fucking pleasure to use. I loved mine, but I had to sell it since I don't need it anymore. During my years at university, it was the best thing I had, but I don't need a portable device anymore. Sold the MacBook, bought a high-end gaming PC to satisfy all my needs.

I haven't tried graphic softwares or anything that requires an insane amount of power, but I guess it wouldn't be a problem for this monster.

(Specs, if anyone is interested:
CPU: i5 7500 @ 3.5GHz (7th Gen)
MOBO: ASUS B250 Krait Gaming
RAM: 2x4GB HyperX Fury 2400MHz DDR4
VGA: EVGA GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0
SSD: Samsung EVO 850 256GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
PSU: Seasonic S12II 620W)

I was a hardcore Mac fanboy while using the MacBook, but since I bought the PC, I'm in love with it. Boots in 8 seconds and does its job without asking a single question.

I was looking at the MAcbooks with Touchbars last week. They look cool, but are they useful? Would you pay the extra money for the touchbar knowing what you know now?

I'm scared Apple might go ballistic and quit making laptops for some sort of panels - that's disturbing.

Would NOT buy a touch bar model, i believe there is a new one without touch bar still.

... not if you're on a Mac. If you're on a Mac desktop (or laptop), and the power suddenly goes out, you don't lose a thing. When power comes back and your computer boots up, everything including all unsaved documents, images, video edits, are exactly where you left off.

No MPG, you're wrong - give Sid70 a little credit here, he's right.

I used PC's forever until I tried a Mac in 2009. Since then, all of our office machines are Mac's except for 1 PC. And like Sid, I wish I had switched sooner.

Sure we can argue speed and tech all you want. What I noticed and fell in love with was:

- Ultra-clear screen
- Very long battery life on laptops
- Mac OSX is very easy to use.
- Everything is intuitive and exactly where it should be.
- RELIABLE. Oh my god, reliable. It just works perfectly.
- It LASTS. I'm typing this on a 2009 iMac 27". That's 8 years of reliability.
- No stupid viruses. No Malware. No crap.
- FAST Technical support. Calls by phone take only minutes. No credit card required. Support even after warranty has expired. Support in English, by a genuine Canadian or American, and not by someone in India or elsewhere.
- Runs every program I want. No such thing as compatibility problems.

Comparing Hardware to hardware shouldn't always be the one and only reason on which computer to buy. Sure PC's are faster, but the fastest machines can run hot, or be unstable and require endless driver updates, or take up too much space, too much cable mess, etc, and sometimes require extra support from multiple vendors just to solve a problem.

PC owners scream "Apple Fanboy" all the time, but trust me, our recommendations are based on experience on both platforms. (I have a PC Running Windows 10 too, btw). PC Guys that refuse to consider Apple without even stepping into an Apple store and trying a machine out are just locking themselves out of getting some information that may help them make better computer choices in the future.

I do. I currently have an iPhone 7. I never had a 6, but I have a 5, 4s, 4 and a 3. I have kept all of my old phones since 2002 I believe. Yes, I have a Flip phone. Wish I had a brick...

My iPhone syncs with my computer, media etc so I find it seemless to use. The new Samsungs are really sexy looking so I might consider switching next year. Then again Apple is supposed to announce an all new Smartphone soon so we'll see what that's all aboot.

- You can get many laptops with ultra-clear screens (hard to find any without), and 4K, 5K and 8K monitors for PCs. Apple are no longer making displays. All monitors whatever for gaming or professionals are made by Dell, Acer, Asus, NEC, Viewsonic etc.

- Almost any ultrabook/laptop today has long battery life.

- Sure MacOS may be noob friendly. I don't find Windows that hard to use though.

- Windows 7 and now 10 have been perfect reliable for me. If your stuff is crashing all the time, complain to the hardware manufacturer for making shitty drivers.

- From what I heard people who have installed Windows 10 on old computers it also works pretty well. Can't tell from personal experience, because no way in hell am I going to work on a 8-year old computer. I usually make upgrades to my PC every year or every second year. I know that is something you Mac users can't do though.

- Viruses? If you are an idiot clicking on anything, sure buying a Mac is probably a fine solution. Last time I had a virus though was on Windows XP. Running the latest Windows build, common sense, Malwarebytes and AV and you are pretty safe. Now there is also Windows S for those with limited usage like browsing the net, Facebook, Netflix and some Word/Excel usage.

- Only once have I used technical support - after changing motherboard - else Google has always solved my problems.

- Windows also runs every program I want. MacOS can not.

I have only been using a 15" Dell laptop for 6 months in connection with education. Besides that I do not use laptops. Unless you travel a lot there is little to no reason for such a device. Then they are underpowered for their price, and same can be said about AIO's which I also never would buy.

I have built my own computers for close to 20 years now. Something that Apple won't let me. Not only do I get the very best, I also get a lot more for the money than an Mac offers. Running hot? With desktops you have a ton of cooling options. Even options that let you overclock your system and get even more performance. Take up too much space? Never found my office to small for a PC case. Else there are AIO's or laptops just like Mac's. Cable mess? Mac Pro just called. Unlike that abomination I can have all my harddrives etc. inside the case thank you. For everyone else, again there is AIO alternatives.

You are completely right. I refuse to step into an Apple store.
My PC's are working flawless whatever it is for gaming, 3D work or Photoshop. And for the same price as Mac Pro I got better CPU, better graphics card, better SSD, 4x the memory and a case that is actually usable and a workstation worthy, and not just a tiny, shiny bucket.

I have been buying chuwi tablets for the past few years, great tablets, dual usb ports. And its those usbs, plug anything in and it just works, that's makes them shit over ever other tablet I have seen/ used, had 3 now.

The one linked is a new one, Already ordered mine.

PC tech changes so fast its better to buy cheap, one level down from top of the range and buy regularly.

The one I ordered:
$399 Super EB
Windows 10
128 Gb SSD
6 Gb Ram
Intel Apollo Lake N3450
Keyboard + Stylus included
12.3-inch 2K screen (2736 x 1824 rez )

Bang for buck, hard to beat. And 2 usb3 plus a usb c means nothing else compares.

So great, we can all agree, PC is a great solution and so is Mac. It's all about personal preference, now if you guys would please stop beating off onto each others chest, that'd be fantastic.

As an OP I may remind everyone the post is about long term hesitation and finally a joyful experience overcoming doubts of certain type. Only PC tech R2D2 senseless retards can see more than it was initially meant to be about.
