Anyone using mesh Wi-Fi setup like Google Wi-Fi?

Just curious if it's worth an upgrade. I have a wi-fi extender out in my garage which is a separate building from my house. It doesn't really work that well and I hate the fact I have to have 2 different network names. Always a pain as they overlap and it causes problems when you're on the edge of where it should switch to the stronger network.

Seems pricey though at around $440 Canadian for the 3 pack.

Comcast has hotspots (really a mesh because they use everyone's modems/routers to create a wide area signal) covering most of my town. My modem and router are on the 3rd floor. I have a range extender on the 1st but it doesn't do so well so I generally run off the hotspot while in other areas including at my girlfriends house.

you use those exposed xfinity hotspots? I immediately disabled in the router settings the ability to let other people use my connection. Anyway the X5 system is nice but still not long enough range with AC better though..

TP-Link Deco M5 Wi-Fi system (Pack of 3) ? Router Replacement for Secure Whole Home Coverage. Has packet inspection, antivirus, and firewall all built into it. Control with iOS app or android. 229.00 for the three mesh system and I've never had higher speeds and better coverage all the way in the back yard.

Eero is too expensive as is orbi, google mesh is good but it's giving Google EVERYTHING you do.

Luma Whole Home WiFi (3 Pack - White) - Replaces WiFi Extenders and Routers. Thsi is my second fav. though now it's 299.99 on amazon, it was 229 also regularly just give it a few days to go back. On prime day either of those could be gotten for 175.00 and I have used both and they are my absolute favorite beside securify almond routers for their security and simple on device setup and you can mount them on walls they look amazing too.

I have three of these throughout my house and pool area

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They support roaming and all have the same SSID so no matter where you are, you're connected to the closest one.

Very cool web based controller that manages them all as well.

Comcast doesn't give you a choice. You are referring to your own hotspot settings. What comcast is doing is utilizing everyone's modems/routers to create a wide area wifi network via separate signal. It's not something you personally can turn on or off.

Do I use it? Yes.. All the time. Sitting in a drive through at Captain D's. Sitting at the local bar.. Where my boat is docked. My girlfriends house. Other cities that have comcast.. Everywhere, even in my own building at times.

I have the XFi the new one from xfinity with the app controls and you don't have to participate with this router/modem. It's in the settings along with a waiver they asked I sign if I didn't want to participate.

They didn't ask me. I'm on the gigabit plan and required to use their modem and router so that may be why? Anyway, I don't care because it's great.

Thanks. I'm currently leaning for the tp-link deco too. Google looked good but then I found out you can't change the ip address range of the router. I have a whole bunch of devices already on my network like ip cameras that I don't feel like reconfiguring. What a pathetic oversight on Google's part.

Linksys velop looked good too but doesn't support nat loopback which admittingly is a minor inconvenience. But for the price it should be perfect.

Do you happen to know if the tp-link deco supports nat loopback? I have a couple servers running in my house for my cams and security system and it would be nice to be able to access them from one external link instead of having to switch to the ip address when I'm home.

Actually i called tp-link and it looks like they dont support nat loopback either. Not a deal breaker though considering how cheap ir is compared to the velop.

i don't know about the NAT loopback but I think you got that info from them. I love the TP link system, so much cheaper than the rest, with built in security for your IoT stuff and antivirus with no recurring bullshit. I have 100 mb/s from xfinity and I used to get exactly topped out at 100 in the main room with the router and even with them as AP's with repeater mode I still get 85 mb/s in every room of my house and even in the back yard so I'm happy with that. I'll take the 15 loss for that much range.
