Quentin Tarantino?s ?Star Trek? Will Be R-Rated

Quentin Tarantino Star Trek R-Rated Mark L. Smith, Drew Pearce, Lindsay Beer | Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: After Deadline this week revealed that Quentin Tarantino pitched a Star Trek film to JJ Abrams and Paramount, the whole thing is moving at warp speed. Tarantino met for hours in a writers room with Mark L. Smith, Lindsey Beer, and Drew Pearce. They kicked around ideas and one of them will get the job. I?m hearing the frontrunner is Smith, who wrote The Revenant. The film will most certainly go where no Star Trek has gone before: Tarantino has required it to be R rated, and Paramount and Abrams agreed to that condition. Most mega budget tent poles restrict the film to a PG-13 rating in an effort to maximize the audience. That was the reason that Guillermo Del Toro?s $150 million At The Mountains of Madness didn?t go forward at Universal, even though Tom Cruise was ready to star. The exception to this rule was Fox?s Deadpool, but that film started out with modest ambitions before it caught on and became the biggest R rated film ever.

Not sure how I feel about Tarantino doing Star Trek. Don't get me wrong, love his work, but just not for Star Trek.

Hmmm....

On one side, it would make for a really, really interesting movie. It would definitely be one that I want to go see.

The last Star Trek movie was total complete shit. It was stupid from start to finish. It ignored everything that makes Trek good. It's the only Trek movie in history that I've never watched more than once.

Star Trek could definitely do well in an R-rated world, and fans would embrace it. Marvel's deadpool is a good example.

What matters more to me is the story. I really hope that before Tarantino signs on, that it has a first rate science-fiction story, written by a great Sci-fi legend. If the new Trek is just another soulless shoot-em-up noise-fest like the last one, it'll sink the franchise.

Basically what matters is the actual plot. If it's just violent with no actual substance... I like Tarantino, but no idea if he's right for Star Trek. Wait and see, I suppose.

I hope it appeals to everyone who loves really good science fiction. I'd rather see a slow-moving Star Trek that makes me think (like ST:TMP) instead of an all-action stinker.

Well, star trek indeed missing a banter like it was in TOS. Beside, for movie to be great it need incorporate all elements including romance, not just pure action or pure effects.

Spock saying 'Motherfucking logical."

Lt. Uhuru getting bitched slapped.

Sulu getting butt fucked by Scotty in the transporter room.

Bones McCoy reviving Uma Thurman Pulp Fiction-style.

Kirk - Michael Madsen
Spock - Robert Forster
Lt. Uhuru - Pam Grier
Scotty - Tim Roth
Dr McCoy - Samuel L Jackson (that would be awesome seeing him get pissed all the time at Spock)
