Coal mining is a east coast thing....... In some areas their entire economy depends on it. But coal is dying. My house here in California runs on solar and natural gas.

They can never stay on topic and discuss things logically. It's always 1) be snarky to deflect 2) personal insults to deflect 3) what's happening doesn't matter to diminish 4) try to change the topic to deflect.

They are so arrogant that they think ignoring big issues in key states , and lying saying everything is better than ever, is a strategy to winning 2020.

Notice they offer no solutions or explanations here, they just say snarky crap and try to disract, while huge buildings in small towns are empty with no hope of filling them and bringing jobs back.

I directly countered one of your posts showing it was fake and you were lying. But you ignored it. Like you always do. Keep making up stories, the fact that 80% of people on GFY want you gone can always go higher.

Small companies hit hardest by tariff backlash

NEW YORK – Time and effort have gone down the drain for Steve Gould, who is scrambling to find new customers for his gin, whiskey and other spirits since the United States has taken a tough stance on trade issues.

Before the European Union retaliated against new U.S. tariffs with taxes of its own, Gould expected revenue from the EU at his Golden Moon Distillery in Colorado to reach $250,000 or $350,000 this year. Now he’s concerned that European exports will total just $25,000. Golden Moon already saw an effect when then-candidate Donald Trump made trade an issue during the 2016 campaign. Gould lost one of his Mexican importers and an investor, as overseas demand for small-distiller spirits was growing.

“We’ve lost years of work and hundreds of thousands of dollars in building relationships with offshore markets,” says Gould, who’s hoping to find new customers in countries like Japan.

President Trump’s aggressive trade policies are taking a toll on small U.S. manufacturers. The president has imposed tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum imports from most of the world, including Europe, Mexico and Canada, driving up costs for companies that rely on those metals. And he has slapped 25 percent taxes on $34 billion in Chinese imports in a separate trade dispute, targeting mostly machinery and industrial components so far. Trump’s tariffs have drawn retaliation from around the world. China is taxing American soybeans, among other things; the European Union has hit Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Kentucky bourbon; Canada has imposed tariffs on a range of products – from U.S. steel to dishwasher detergent.

More businesses could be feeling the pain as the trade disputes escalate – the administration last week threatened to impose 10 percent tariffs on thousands of Chinese products including fish, apples and burglar alarms. And China responded with a tariff threat of its own, although it didn’t say what U.S. exports would be targeted.

Small businesses are particularly vulnerable to tariffs because they lack the financial resources larger companies have to absorb higher costs. Large companies can move production overseas – as Harley-Davidson recently announced it would do to escape 25 percent retaliatory tariffs in Europe. But “if you’re a small firm, it’s much harder to do that; you don’t have an international network of production locations,” says Lee Branstetter, professor of economics and public policy at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College.

i think coal is the smallest problem. everybody with a little brain knew that this can´t work.

but a very nice example of "oh that was not cake - it was shit" is whirlpool.

for years they had put pressure on the US government to protect it from foreign competition with tariffs. when trumphole finally fulfilled the dream in january, the manager could hardly hold his own with enthusiasm.

Quote:
The introduction of washing machine tariffs was "a victory for American workers and consumers alike," Fettig rejoiced. In anticipation of additional orders, he created 200 new jobs at the Whirlpool plant in Ohio. "The new hires are just the beginning," he said enthusiastically. "President Trump will usher in a new era of innovation for consumers everywhere," Fettig paid homage to the trade strategist in the White House.

In the meantime, Whirlpool is not singing hymns of praise, but laments for the White House. Like many other companies, the company has become collateral damage in the expansion of the trade war. The steel tariffs Trump is using to save jobs in the US heavy industry have massively increased Whirlpool's raw material costs. In the first quarter, profits fell by almost 40 percent compared to the previous year.
was that so hard to spot?
I say no. even a stupid layman who can put the numbers one and one together could have seen it. the question is if someone WANT to see it.

if trumps supporters couldn't see it, they're even dumber than i thought. if they didn't want to see it, then they're even more brainwashed than lemmings.

i would not pay attention to the numbers you can see right now.
economy is a complicated process.

example: when trumphole announced the upcoming tariffs it does not lead IMMEDIATELY to a negative effect in the market. the opposite can even happen at short notice because companies and private customers stock up and therefore consume even more.

the real effect can be seen on longer terms of 6 month or a year because than companies publish their results.

what happens afterwards are self-fulfilling prophecies in a cycle that cannot be stopped.

we have seen this live in the world several times and there is no exception to these predictable processes.

only a fool doesn't know that and when a fools are voting for their president, you can bet on him to be the top fool.

I think the unemployment rate can only go up from here. I had read some years ago that somewhere between 3.5% and 4% is basically zero unemployment because at any given time that percent of the workforce is in flux, changing jobs, graduating from school, etc. It would be pretty difficult for it to drop much lower.

that´s correct and it shows that this part of trumphole´s campaign was based on science fiction and lies.

obviously he's enjoying himself in obama's jacket.

Trump always said the unemployment report numbers are easily manipulated and Obama's unemployment numbers were fake and the REAL unemployment numbers were 20% higher.

As soon as Trump got in office, 3 months later, the numbers were all of a sudden valid , then miraculously started going down at record rates. Imagine that

Chump has permanently scarred American politics. We are just now starting to see the results of his presidency. Sadly this is only the beginning of his uneducated meddling in things he has no chance of comprehending.

History will look back on his disgraceful actions and surely judge him as the worst most ineffectual president America has ever had the misfortune to elect ! One can only hope his mindless followers learn from this and vote him out in favor of a president who truly loves and stands for America's values and people

Empty the swamp. Chump is the swamp!!!!

Was reading a article yesterday and it seems neat plants and the farms that supply them are next for the layiffs.

The cold storage warehouses that hold the meat prior to it hitting the market are at max capacity due to the tariffs and countries refusing to buy at the higher price.

This is the next big one to hit. It will make meat in the US cheaper for the time due to too much supply but the farmers will be losing money and will be selling at a loss.

This will cause them to drastically drop production with lots of layoffs. If the tariffs eventually go away, the meat prices will skyrocket in the US once the supply levels start dropping but they dont have the production.

yes the farmers belong to this poor part that can´t run away.
the big companies moving production away from america and they can still export to wherever without tariffs. the one who pays that shit at the end are all those who can not leave.

in about 3-4 weeks the higher prices will start to hit the consumers.
and another 4 weeks later the wave arrives at the employers market.

whatever trump makes it has the opposite effect of what he have promised.

i think they have to change the slogan soon to "make america suffer again".

busty is right. he will make it in the history books as the dumbest president ever. what I hate on that is that his voters will not be mentioned there.

Yea that's what the article said. It said one of the big production plants was about to do a massive expansion in IL. Once Trump started the tariff talk they held off and now have canceled the expansion. They are now looking to build their expansion in Eastern Europe to avoid the tariffs..

Trump once again MAGA.. In fact they said out of all the big meat companies the only company to not cut production was Tyson at this point and so far Tyson is just eating the added cost, but we all know that wont go on long..

There's actually a word for feeling happy about the misfortune of others: schadenfreude. It's originally a German word.

Trump supporters were so happy when they saw immigrants in cages and babies separated from their mothers at the border it was their dream come true. Sad

First, I don't support Trump.

Second, retail has been struggling for a long time. If you want to demonize someone for it point your rage at Jeff Bezos. He is responsible for more retail layoffs than anybody in history.
