Negative SEO
 

Someone has spammed over 1300 different forums with links to my site, Debauchery.com. I am gonna post just a few links here and suggest that you look to see if any of your sites are spammed here too. I found these links using Google's new feature in WM tools where you can download the latest links. This feature actually shows links from as far back as 2004 for my site.

Anyway, any thoughts, suggestions, relevant comments on this would be appreciated. It has been suggested to me that one of the bigger porn companies has a staff that does this to hurt the competition in the serps. I don't know but am throwing this out there for everyone to consider.

With over 1300 of these, I doubt seriously that they are "organic" links that surfers put up. The wording is very weird too...I mean "Billy Joel Hey Girl" is the anchor text linking to my index page on the second one above...wtf. No surfer would post that.

oOvious SEO rape attempt. You may need to hire a link removal company.

Not a lot you can do. Focus on your own seo work and ignore the negative seo.

Having those links removed could even hurt you (link velocity), but there's no way to know for sure what will happen.

I do agree that there is not a lot that I can do.

If you notice, there are a lot of other sites with links there and I was hoping that some of those folks would notice this as well. I have no clue as to what we can all do about this, but I figured better minds than mine might get involved and come up with something.

Antonio, if they won't hurt my site why did someone go to such great lengths to create the links? This is not a new occurrence, I've seen these links from as far back as 2005.

Where within the wm tools do you see the feature to download latest links? All I see is just a list of links, nothing about latest links?

Google is pretty smart... they won't hurt your site. If that were the case, a lot of people would be wiping out their competition using that method.

In the "Links To Your Site" area, "Who Links the Most" look up at the top, there are 3 buttons:

It is the 3rd one, called "Download Latest Links"

trevesty, I hope that you are right. However, I am curious as to why this has been going on for 7 years. That seems an awful long time for someone to keep up something like this.

Regardless, if its not for phrases you are ranking for or concerned about, its meaningless.

If you download it as a CSV you can search the spreadsheet for the word "forum" and it will tell you how many are there. If there are a lot you can do a Find, Replace All, and go to "format" and change the font to bold and change the font size to 12 or something. This will make them stand out...you can easily scroll down and look for trends.

Nope. In fact I'm seeing quite a lag on the results. Nothing new since July 10th. And as far back as I go, I don't see any forum type links. Sounds like someone did an xrumer run on your site. At one point the SE's did penalize bad neighbourhoods, in today's SEO I'd think that the worst thing a search engine would do is ignore bad links like that. Otherwise as someone pointed out, it would be used to take down the competition.

if you are still ranking good in google and weren't hit by for example penguin, why would you care about those links? So how are your rankings? If they're still good those links dont have an effect otherwise you would have lost your rankings by now, seeing those links go way back.

My site still ranks pretty good, but it has a weird filter on it. For the past 20 months every 60 days it shoots up in the serps, stays for about a week, then drops down. When it is down it gets decent se traffic but when it is up it gets really good traffic.

In Reconsideration requests, Google has said that the site does not have a manual action on it. Hence, it has to be some sort of algo filter. And it is like clockwork.

What is the most recent (date) you have in that CSV file? Mine's july 10th, not sure if a 9 day lag is normal?

He sold links on your site I believe in the past. At least he did to me on your behalf, claiming you guys had some relationship (partners, best friends or something). I can't really remember but I'm pretty sure I bought links on your site quite a few years ago in 08 or so.

Anyway, he is a liar, a thief and a scammer that has ripped off most of the larger link buyers/sellers in adult, including several of the largest programs.

As soon as I noticed your domain the other day when you made a post, I began to wonder how close you were with him as quite a few people were hunting for him not too long ago and he's also the kind of person who attracts this sort of behavior or that would do it thinking he's going to make your site fail (he's a sociopath but also not real bright). :)

Squelar, no one has ever sold links on my site. I am a one man operation. I've owned that site since I came up with the name in 1996. In the old days, I did have employees but they were all friends that live here in town that I've known for years, but even they didn't sell links. If someone tried to sell you a link on my site they must have been a scammer, but they had no affiliation with me.

WiredGuy, I downloaded that file yesterday and the most recent link was on July 7, 2012.

ive seen this happen to a number of sites, this is not terribly abnormal. try to figure out what keywords you are getting the increased traffic on and improve your bounce rate & time on site. maybe you will stay up there longer the next time. i would also look at changing titles, or content to effect how you show for these searches to see if you can also increase your CTR which might also help keep you on top.

Those won't hurt you, long-term. May cause a slight drop initially, although not even that is very likely.

If someone REALLY wanted you out of the SERPs, they'd do other stuff. I've, ahem... SEOd sites that are nowhere to be found anymore, and staying there. :)

Maybe this is a job for the "disavow link" tool, whenever that appears. But seriously, it had better have a bulk load!

never use the disavow link tool when it goes live. It's another tool from big G to get as many information as possible; and a great way to fuck up sites.

I suspect that those links have not hurt my site. However, one bee sting won't kill most people...but a lot of bee stings will. Negative SEO like this, by itself, may not hurt your site but who would want someone doing something like this to their site?

I posted this mainly for information for other folks and to open an intelligent discussion about both these, and to see if anyone had anything else relevant to bring up. I do find it odd that whoever has done this has been doing it for 7 years now and that they continue to do it.

It is not just the keywords that I get traffic for, it is the amount of keywords. My site normally gets traffic for just under 2000 different keywords each day...then it will shoot up to around 6000 during that time frame. Also, phrases like "free porn videos" my site will be around 14th (it used to be in the top 10, sometimes the top 5), then it will drop down to #250.

That said, the site still places top 10 for tons of good keywords, often #1.

Google has said that this is not a manual action (penalty). So something is throwing a filter on the site, in the algorithm, that lasts for 60 days then expires, then is reapplied within about a week.

Why...you've seen this before?

A couple of my sites have also been hit with similar negative seo forum links and I got a "google has detected unnatural links to your site" message to my webmaster tools,.. and yes I'm already penalized as well.

I'm gonna go through some bad incoming links, remove what I can and then submit a reconsideration request telling that someone is trying to hurt my site obviously. And pointing to many examples.

Same problems here.

through webmaster tools i discovered about 143 forums where my site was spammed.
Spammed with the weirdest keywords that has NOTHING to do with my site.

for example. " Skanky girl music" used for one of my amateur porn sites. lol

I submitted a request and mentioned these 143 sites and hope google will clean this fucking shit. I will SPAM GOOGLE every day untill they fix this shit..



How to control external backlinks like this anyway ?
