Prisoner in van said Freddie Gray was ?trying to injure himself,? document says
BALTIMORE — A prisoner sharing a police transport van with Freddie Gray told investigators that he could hear Gray “banging against the walls” of the vehicle and believed that he “was intentionally trying to injure himself,” according to a police document obtained by The Washington Post.
The prisoner, who is currently in jail, was separated from Gray by a metal partition and could not see him. His statement is contained in an application for a search warrant, which is sealed by the court. The Post was given the document under the condition that the prisoner not be named because the person who provided it feared for the inmate’s safety. The document, written by a Baltimore police investigator, offers the first glimpse of what might have happened inside the van. It is not clear whether any additional evidence backs up the prisoner’s version, which is just one piece of a much larger probe. Gray was found unconscious in the wagon when it arrived at a police station on April 12. The 25-year-old had suffered a spinal injury and died a week later, touching off waves of protests across Baltimore, capped by a riot Monday in which hundreds of angry residents torched buildings, looted stores and pelted police officers with rocks. Police have said they do not know whether Gray was injured during the arrest or during his 30-minute ride in the van. Local police and the U.S. Justice Department both have launched investigations of Gray’s death. The rest... Freddie Gray's arrest record: 4-1-15 - stolen property 3-20-15 - dealing cocaine 1-4-15 - distribution of narcotics 12-31-14 - distribution of narcotics 12-4-14 - distribution of narcotics 12-4-14 - possession of narcotics 1-25-14 - possession of narcotics over 10 grams 9-29-13 distribution of narcotics 10-5-12 - illegal gambling 5-9-12 - distribution of narcotics 8-28-10 - possession of narcotics 9-16-09 - distribution of narcotics 7-16-08 - distribution of narcotics 4-30-08 - unlawful possession (TWO COUNTS) 4-16-08 - distribution of narcotics 3-28-08 - possession of narcotics 3-20-08 - Burglary 3-20-08 - possession of narcotics 2-12-08 - distribution of narcotics 9-21-07 - distribution of narcotics 8-24-07 - manufacturing and distribution of narcotics 8-29-07 - distribution of narcotics (Source: Maryland Dept. of Justice.) They do not mention he had an operation only a week before this all went down. He was told to stay at home and rest but going out and selling drugs is what he did.
Slamming yourself in the van like a wild animal probably did not help his spine either. Facts will not matter now that the city is already fucked. |
Those charges, and their time frame, I dunno, either he was really stupid, desperate or someone had it out for him or both.
People that cannot afford insurance self medicate with street drugs. Nothing wrong with drug dealing, if their were then pharmacies, doctors & Phizer wouldn't exist. Let's take the word of a guy, in jail who wants to get out, about what happened in that transport van, with a grain of salt. |
Disclaimer: Don't take what I'm about to say as me saying Freddie Gray was a good person, or anything regarding the death/injury of Freddie Gray. I'm talking specifically about this article and the "noises of him injuring himself"
The person who gave that statement has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. Unless he witnessed with his own eyes, Freddie Gray trying to break his own neck or injure himself.. He has no idea. I used to be an idiot when I was younger, and long story short found myself arrested or in the back of a police van more than a couple times (don't search my record brah.....jk there is none) People banging on those walls is a very common thing. People are mad and try and annoy the hell out of cops who are driving them. It's also very common while in holding cells.. People are always banging and making as much noise as possible. The rooms / vans echo so they do it even more to be annoying to the cops.. Drunk tanks suck. Luckily I'm not 19 anymore so I hope to never see the inside of one again |
Is there a single person on the face of this earth that seriously thinks this has/had ANYTHING to do with Freddie Gray? If there is I can show you a complete fucking moron

The truth about Freddie Gray's 'pre-existing injury from car accident' - Baltimore Sun |
the man was a tool, and also like onehunglo I'm not trying to vouch or stick up for him, but taking
a) a prisoner's word on something he couldn't actually see and ignoring b) the fact that beatings regularly occur in transport vans where there are zero cameras or witnesses = this report means fuck all really plus what onehunglo said... banging on the van walls is pretty much standard practice, so also means jack shit tbh. |

Funny how on the 23rd the police commissioner specifically said the other passenger reported it was a smooth ride and Gray was quiet.
Weird how his story changed once he talked to cops again a few days later. Quid pro quo? Reduced or tossed charges? BPD is famous for that. Also suspicious that it has been the only police doc to be leaked. http://imgur.com/VxQTbt5 |
From Criminal Defense Lawyer dot com ......
If You are Stopped By an Officer: If you are stopped by a police officer, obey the officer?s instructions. Do not resist. Do not run away. Do not make any sudden movements and keep your hands visible at all times. Resisting arrest can endanger you and result in charges against you, even if the original arrest or stop was invalid. Disobeying an officer, running away, or resisting arrest can only get you in more trouble. . |

According to that link Peachtree Settlement Funding paid them 16 cents on the dollar to get their settlement money upfront. And the payouts aren't starting until 2024-2039? What the hell kind of lawyer did they have? |

It's your kids' job to push limits/boundaries with you, the authority figure in their lives, because that's what kids do, but nobody ever turned round after a parent killed their kid because the parent lost it "the kid should have known that parent was an unstable fuck who had to express their anger by killing them" :winkwink: |

I understand .... I'm not siding with the police at all when I say don't run. I'm saying all you do is make matters worse. At a minimum you get additional charges. At the max you could lose your life. With all the recent cases in the news only a real dumbass still runs. Worth noting the above advise is from a criminal defense website. . |
If it ain't on video tape then it's the same story every time.
Weird how that works. |
Gee, what do you know?. Police have released an irrelevant arrest record that nobody asked for and now a completely inadmissible statement by a guy in jail who was incapable of seeing anything.
You know, they're still trying to determine which news agency requested the Michael Brown mini-mart surveillance video in Ferguson. Police claimed that the news dogs were hounding them to release it, when nobody even knew it existed and no record of anyone ever asking for it to be released has yet been found. Everything is so legit you can taste the ass. |

It's one thing to smack a 5 year old kid in the mouth who starts waving a knife at you and there's a real chance of injury, it's another to do the same thing because they mouthed off, or squared up to you as if they were any threat whatsoever, or doing it out of instant revenge-gratification because your feelings were hurt because you lost face in a job you know isn't going to be sweetness and light 100% of the time. If you look at the criminals as being the 5 year old kids, and the old bill as the parents, you can see the insanity of excusing - maybe brushing over is a better phrase - the police behaviour/over-reactions a hell of a lot of the time. Obviously there's never totality one way or the other, and as much as I loathe the old bill most criminals deserve what they get, but fuck, it's obvious a huge number are out of control hormone driven power trippers that have zero business being in the 'to serve and protect' game at all. And just to pre-empt any replies from anyone saying 'yeah but 99% of them (ha!) are decent', that has nothing to do with the ones that aren't. 99% of people aren't criminals, that doesn't mean we should just take it on the chin that some people are murderers, rapists, dealers, armed robbers, etc. Problem is we can differentiate good people/bad people easy as pie mentally, but for some reason it *has* to be all cops are pieces of shit (I'm guilty of that most of the time) one one side, and the other side jumping to the defence of the good ones, but the bad ones get a free pass as being in the collective of 'policemen' instead of either a shitty person or a good person. And that's why this shit will go on forever and a day :upsidedow |
Sounds like.. hey if you help us fluff up your report, we make it so you "din do nuttin"..
|
Jel, I agree. The variable on the law enforcement side varies from the cop being ill trained, over trained with a military background, having personal problems, falling apart under stress, etc. The person being arrested can push any number of buttons that set the "adult" in the equation off.
With a million cops across the country, the 10's of millions of ass-wipes being arrested, the amazing thing is it doesn't happen more often. Blackmonster admits he would resist arrest. I just don't get it. . |
