Drug Smugglers in action and I've got pics!

Who remembers the good old days in south Florida when you could look out your condo in the middle of the day and
see a low flying plane drop it's cargo to a speed boat waiting below. I just happened to have my camera ready when
some cocaine cowboys thought it was a good idea and soon found out it wasn't :winkwink:

CIVMatt 11-07-2008 11:44 AM

Later reports caught the Miami Drug Runners trying to escape with the product, authorities quickly ID'ed both "CIVMatt" and "A-Bomb" in the Miami Harold Newspaper.

nice, it was all over the news in those days. just about every day. The news made it look like you could simply go to Miami Beach and wait for the shipment to wash ashore.

pornguy 11-07-2008 11:49 AM

Now days they just bring it up the miami river right into hurricane cove.

Spunky 11-07-2008 11:50 AM

Actually it was pretty common back then to find something washed up on the beach all up and down the Florida coast. Surfers and early morning walkers would get lucky. The walkers would turn it in and the surfers would be headed to hawaii. The really big score was when you'd find a bale of pot with a kilo or two of coke packed in the middle.

Speaking of cocaine :

Quote:

Cocaine worth an estimated £406m has been seized by the Irish authorities from a yacht 200 miles off the south-west coast of Ireland.

One-and-a-half tonnes of the drug were found on a 60ft yacht stormed by armed officers on Wednesday night. The yacht had been tracked from the Caribbean.

These pictures were taken in 1985

What is the point of posting all that. I'm positive the #s in the picture belong to
a different person today.

Machete_ 11-07-2008 01:08 PM

I'm educated as a commercial pilot and took most of my Licenses on the West coat of Florida. It was a small town called Crystal River right along the coastline. These things still happend when I lived there in 1993-1995

You could see the flightplans of them comming from the south. One man in the plane, only landed to get fuel and fly right back where he came from.

cgu 11-07-2008 01:10 PM

yep, the owner data you posted says "single engine" the plane in the pic is has two.

They do, the registration is for single engine, the ac in the pictures is a twin...

Exactly. Now a completely innocent person with absolutely NOTHING to do with the event in
the pictures has their personal information tied to it. It's pointless and beyond stupid. :disgust

kmanrox 11-07-2008 01:39 PM

your post made it sound like you just shot these..

pr0 11-07-2008 01:57 PM

most low-altitude drop planes cover their flight #'s up with a fake screen during the actual run.....& switch back to the real "plate" upon heading home

this photo quality is pretty damn good for 1985 :winkwink:

I said " who remembers the good old days " which for me means in the past. I thought it sounded better than just saying I took these pictures in 1985. I was trying to paint a picture with words and pictures but after the first reply it quickly became apparent that they thought these were current. Post #7 I stated when they were taken and again after that. People are coming in still thinking they are new pics :( I'm sorry if it was misleading but it still doesn't warrant the actions that were taken

Sorry, it was a bad attempt at an interesting thread. I think I'll quit while I'm behind :1orglaugh

Don't see how it is his fault when you made it seem as if you had just taken these photos. No way for him to know you were just trying to be clever. :error

pics are pretty cool.. would have been nervous taking them tho lol

If I had just posted the picture without any words and then you had to guess when that
picture was taken, what factors would you use to determine the year?

I really don't see what I did to imply that these were new pictures

I did try to get people thinking in the right direction by saying " the good old days ".
I don't see anything I did to make anyone think it was taken in the present. That's just their assumption based on I don't know what :upsidedow

starpimps 11-07-2008 08:15 PM

very cool pics man. how far off shore was the drop

foghead 11-07-2008 08:27 PM

Those pics are old school..Apparently now days the smugllers are all high tech and use semi-subs so they cannot be detected.:2 cents:

justinsain 11-07-2008 08:32 PM

The plane dropped it's cargo to a waiting speed boat and then the boat had to pick
up the bales as fast as they can and hurry off to a safe spot to unload for the next leg of
the smuggling operation relay.

The product changes hands many times as it makes it's way from the fields to the streets
and the smugglers are always trying to stay one step ahead of the law. Sometimes unsuccessfully.
This time U.S. Customs had the upper hand with their own speed boat
they called " Blue Thunder " and a helicopter nicknamed " coke busters "

The chase was on....
