If Iconix buys Playboy will GFY still be here?

I don't see a future for GFY because Iconix is a brand builder.

Check out their roster....

they wouldn't pitch it in the garbage... I am sure they would sell off anything they didn't want.

TheAmericanCannibal 11-12-2009 01:01 PM

The National Enquirer/ AMI Media is buying Playboy.
You heard it here first.

fris 11-12-2009 01:03 PM

whovever buys it, it would be wise to keep it, gfy is a cash cow no matter what you say, costs of running the forum vs how much is made, they would be stupid not to keep it, and if it was for sale, it would be bought up quick im sure.

Correct. I am sure they would find a buyer somewhere. Not to the tune of what it sold for originally. But they would find someone who will buy it.

As for another board, there already is ONE that comes to mind. So the industry is secure and PIMPIN. :winkwink:

will76 11-12-2009 01:08 PM

I wonder how much moderation will be going on around here with Ice gone. Seems like he did 95% of the work on the board.

Lace 11-12-2009 01:11 PM

Oh shit...I brought this up a while ago but didn't think it owuld happen this soon. Starting to make sense now.

okny 11-12-2009 01:14 PM

Dont worry i will just buy the domain from them once it's sold and keep this board alive :winkwink:

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 11-12-2009 01:15 PM

Or they could just pull the plug on it due to the fact that they see it as nothing more than an old customer support board.

If you think of the money made from advertising, no one would say no to that kind of green.

woj 11-12-2009 01:36 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if they sell it off... Iconix is a mainstream company, I doubt they would want to be associated with a board called "go fuck yourself"...

They are buying a company that owns a network of porn sites, and one has a guy's dick tucked in a big sausage pizza... I doubt the words "Go Fuck Yourself" will offend them.

ThumbLord 11-12-2009 01:43 PM

I am sure they will find a buyer easy. Not to the tune of what it sold for originally. But they will find someone who will buy it.
On the other hand buying PlayBoy means buying a "porn" company/program

As for another board, there is ONE that comes to mind.
but it will get me banned if I gave the url and YOU ARE BANNED is not something I would like to see as custom title, although Registered User is a little dull as well.

Seriously?

I'm not sure that would be a good move for the Enquirer, since they come under enough fire already - it would seem far easier for their critics to organize a boycott against them if they were associated with porn. I have to assume that they would take this into consideration.

gfy is a cash cow for a company that does $60 million a year?

while i appreciate and understand the value of incremental revenue, i don't see ad sales here = cash cow for playboy/new ownership.

ThumbLord 11-12-2009 02:04 PM

well dyna mo I think this board is making money so ........ if you buy the brand PlayBoy why not keep anything that is making money.

BradM 11-12-2009 02:06 PM

i agree, thus my incremental revenue comment. but a cash cow? not so much eh.

TheSenator 11-12-2009 02:07 PM

why not? why not? How much is GFY worth?

50,000.00....100,000.00..........2.5million????

MikeFold 11-12-2009 02:08 PM

Shares of Iconix Brand Group Inc., which licenses brands like London Fog to retailers, fell after rumors surfaced that Playboy Enterprises is in talks to sell itself to the company.

maybe the apparel/branding segment, but not the whole package

you might be shocked as to who is pursuing the mag division

come on KB....hehehehe

There are plenty of boards. Some are even doing business on there and try to keep the surfers out. Imagine that.

I would have to think that if they are going to be spending millions buying out another company, they are going to have a breakdown of each asset they are buying, what it is, and how much money it generated last year etc...

If they don't want it, they simply sell it off. Can't see that happening any other way. You just don't unplug something and throw it away when it generates over a million dollars a year mostly profit, even if you don't plan on using it yourself. Someone would buy it. These companies buying up others aren't in the business of pissing money away. Actually a lot of them buy companies to break them up and sell off the parts for profit.

BLOG BURGLAR 11-12-2009 02:45 PM

hope they buy it oit and fire the asshole mods

define "does", is that gross or profit ? my guess is that is gross because last I heard the Print side of playboy is lossing money.

GFY might only gross 1-2 million a year, but 98% of it is profit.

Don't kid yourself.

easily.

40+ banners on top of the page.

An average of about 2 site skins a month.

the little banners and other shit here.

do some math. Easily over 1 million a year. I wouldn't be surprised if it was inbetween 1-2 million.

Common sense man, simple math. I don't think very many people here know exactly what everyone pays for banner spots, you hear some people have sweet deals, but some people also pay $2500 a month. If you just took an average of $1500 a month x 40 = 60K, throw in 2 site skins at 25K each, you are already well over 100K a month, which is well over 1 million a year not counting the bottom of the page banners and other shit they sell.

i hear you, and you very well may be guessing correctly.

but i don't think it is accurate to say 2 skins a month average nor 40 top banners @ $1500/month.

there's been months with no skin, only a couple months with 2 skins. also have to take into account the webmaster access shows too eh. those might even break even or maybe lose.
