Is any one else starting to freak out over the oil leak?

I am. It actually woke me out of a sleep last night...cause it caused a nightmare. People weeping on beaches as waves of oil fouled everything around them.

Ugh.

:(

CybermedAndy 05-09-2010 07:31 PM

Its really a completely shitty situation

I'm avoiding stories about it just cause it gets my blood boiling

DateDoc 05-09-2010 07:32 PM

It sure is fucked up. I've always wanted a condo on Longboat Key but not anymore.

Semi-Retired-Dave 05-09-2010 07:33 PM

At first I thought it was a little leak, but man that thing is crazy. Did they ever put a lid on it?

They tried. It failed.

The dome did not work! They are going to try a smaller dome this week and also try to bung up the pipe that is spewing oil among other things.

mayabong 05-09-2010 07:43 PM

I know, kinda scary

Trixie 05-09-2010 07:43 PM

Yes. Even though I am avoiding reading in-depth about it, I think it's still seeping into my consciousness. That news paired with reading sci fi illustrating all too well how fucked up humans can be is maybe making me a little depressed.

Overload 05-09-2010 07:48 PM

d'uh ... german news talked about 11 MILLION liters already poored outta there :( MAJOR damage to mother earth considering a drop spoils 1000 liters of water ...

This isn't the first major oil spill and it certainly won't be the last. My advice is don't worry about things you have no control over.

spacedog 05-09-2010 07:50 PM

I'm gonna miss eating seafood :waaaaahh

yup, although the last spill of this sort was ~40 years ago, it doesn't happen very often.

fact is, we suckle on big oil's tit and it won't be any time soon when ween ourselves off of it.

:(

fatfoo 05-09-2010 07:54 PM

It's everywhere in the newspapers and Barack Obama even travelled to talk about the leak. Some oil company is being blamed and it has to pay all the clean-up costs.

alias 05-09-2010 07:54 PM

Total fucking mess.

dav3 05-09-2010 07:54 PM

fucking bp

Spunky 05-09-2010 07:55 PM

It's scary because they aren't capping it off sucessfully..worse than Exxon

mayabong 05-09-2010 07:57 PM

The thing that makes this one different is that its a mile down or something. Not sure if they've had a blowout this far down before, so they are in uncharted territory. The gulf stream can carry this all the way up the east coast..

Which oil company is being blamed you dumb ass bot?

Sucks even more when you live down here where all of the damage is being done.

They should stick a Cork in it. That's fucked up. All that pressure coming out of that thing.
You would think they would have a back up plan for this shit with the profits they make. And Obama giving them tax breaks.

papill0n 05-09-2010 10:12 PM

looks incredibly bad for alot of people and the environment

the sooner we are not reliant on oil the better

clicker 05-09-2010 10:15 PM

Absolutley. I have property on the west coast of FL and cant believe this is actually happening.

Yeah I'm from louisiana, Love florida.. beautiful beaches

TidalWave 05-09-2010 10:21 PM

What can we do about this? I can't believe the LEAK hasn't even been stopped YET.

Its still spewing this out! Not even talking about clean up efforts, the leak is still happening!!

WTF.

This is almost inexcusable. I really do fear severe repercussions from all the fucked up shit we are doing to this planet.

There's going to be a "The day the Earth stood still" movie type shit any time now...

Loch 05-09-2010 10:44 PM

How does 200.000 GALLONS a day sound?
We should ALL be weeping

We may be doing a ducumentary on this, time will tell.

There was a safety valve that was proposed to be mandatory on ALL US offshore drilling. It was going to be a law...but the Bush administration nixed it.

Why?

Too expensive.

How expensive?

$500,000.

As in half a million dollars.

I think BP made 6 billion last quarter. Can anyone do the math here and figure out how long it woulda taken them to pay for the safety valve that the Bush/Cheney crew let them off the hook for?

Seriously, this thing has been freaking me out so bad I'm taking a head in the sand approach to it at this point. There's fuck all I can do to stop it. When it gets here I will do what I can to help the clean up efforts. There is a very strong chance my beaches will never be the same.

Maybe I'll spend next weekend on Sand Key with a grouper sandwich and savor the last moments. It's depressing. Local seafood industry is going to cave, tourism is going to get even worse, unemployment will rise, property values will fall, wildlife will suffer and die. It is a complete economic and environmental disaster. Louisiana is feeling it now, it;s just the tip of the iceburg. Everyone on the gulf will suffer. We will all share the same fate. :(

I think it shows you are not a sociopath. I am also having problems trying to remain positive. I feel helpless and wish there is something I could do like donate or volunteer so this leak is stopped but there is nothing other than trying to help the victims. Your nightmare is the same as lots of people: That this leak will continue unchecked for weeks until they get a relief hole drilled.

Now they are talking about plugging up the valve with shredded garbage like tires and golf balls but if they fuck up it could make the leak 12 times as bad as it is now!!!

The one good thing that the south has on its side is hurricanes. A hurricane will clean that stuff up in a jiffy. They gotta stop the leak though! Its already touching my Parish in Louisiana.

It's alright, my car burns at least 13 million litres of gas a week :(

Poindexterity 05-10-2010 02:29 AM

it makes me feel both better and worse at the same time to know that others are freaking out about this shit the same way i am.

mikke 05-10-2010 02:56 AM

in this case, we are all Americans..

Not even close to accurate, dipshit. Now give me a reply on both dip and shit. Cunt.  Why aren't you banned yet.

GregE 05-10-2010 03:29 AM

Alaska is still fucked up 20 years after the Valdez disaster. Proof positive that it's physically impossible to effectively clean that shit up once it gets past a certain point.

I spend a lot of time in the Clearwater, FL area. The beaches there are truly gorgeous and the wildlife is amazing.

This really sucks :disgust

LoveSandra 05-10-2010 04:02 AM

shitty situation

selena 05-10-2010 04:21 AM

I've tried to avoid reading more stories about it, but it is one of those things that lingers at the edges of my mind.

To say that BP is going to pay for it all is laughable. They may indeed end up paying for the actual cleanup effort. But that is to say nothing of all the economic fallout, and the environmental repercussions that will last for decades, if not more.

I am against offshore drilling. There is only so much our planet can take. There is no reason that with our technology and the collective intelligence that we are not further along in developing alternative fuel sources.

Oh, wait, yes, there is a reason. It's called money for the oil companies.

There is a boy...well, young man now...from my tiny little town. He graduated high school with my oldest son, so that would put him around 22. He is bright, and has already been on that Shark Tank show and got funding for another venture. But the one I am referring to now takes sunflowers and coverts their oil to biodiesel fuel, with the remaining 'shucks' turned into livestock feed.

Breaking our dependence on oil...not just foreign oil...is essential to the welfare of our planet.

And now you may feel free to call me a tree hugging, hippie liberal. :D

Phoenix 05-10-2010 05:45 AM

hey at least bp saved 500k on the valve

Actually it is accurate.. but I'll leave the 3rd grade name calling out..
Obama went to La. for a first hand look.. had a press conference.. said that bp
was responsible for the mess and would foot the bill for the cleanup..

RadicalSights 05-10-2010 06:26 AM

As long as it doesn't affect me who cares =D
