L.A. Passes Arizona Ban

Quote:

As expected, the Los Angeles City Council today passed a resolution limiting the city's dealings with Arizona-based businesses and opposing any federal immigration legislation that's based on racial profiling or discrimination. The move was approved by every councilmember except Greig Smith, who represents one of the most conservative parts of the city in the Northwest San Fernando Valley.

Before the vote, Janice Hahn, one of resolution's authors, offered her reasoning to why do this when the city is facing a budget crisis. "There are few times, I think, in our lives when we have the opportunity to stand up and be counted and say, 'when wrong is wrong and when good is good,' and we know bad things happen when good people do not stand up and say something," she said. "Let's stand up today and say yes for what we believe what should America look like and behave like."

Councilman Paul Koretz stood up and took issue with another recent Arizona decision about education. As explained by the Wall Street Journal, "the Arizona Department of Education recently began telling school districts that teachers whose spoken English it deems to be heavily accented or ungrammatical must be removed from classes for students still learning English."

Koretz said that if that were a federal law, it would be "the very beginning of what went on in Nazi Germany." He added that Arizona "needs to be stunned in every possible way until they stop this behavior. We can't let this advance any further, this is absolutely dangerous."

Councilmember Richard Alarcon then entered an amending motion seeking to offer Arizona-based businesses incentives to move to Los Angeles. Various city agencies are instructed to develop and present a plan within thirty days on a package of incentives to offer to them.

Many others spoke, including Bill Rosendahl who said that he's openly gay and still faces discrimination. And Eric Garcetti noted Arizona currently has the worst economy in the country while Texas, which also deals with immigration issues as a border state, has the fastest growing economy. He also pointed out that the state banned animal-human hybrids. "Because that seems to be the most pressing problem, too," he sniped.

Smith, the sole dissenting voter, did not speak during the debate.

Anyone who drives from San Diego to L.A. sees a different version of the illegal immigrant stuff. Well its Border Patrol, but in San Onofre you have to stop at a check point so they can see if you look like you might be illegal. Yesterday on the way back from San Diego, I get waved through in a shiny red Mercedez, while the truck behind me of Mexican gardners gets waived into secondary. How is this any different?

Same shit. Different bureaucracy.

me thinks la should be much more focused on the billion dollar deficit it has and not on political posturing, but hey, they do what they are good at.

Fact is, this affects 15 business in the valley that currently do business with the City of LA. Was on the news last night. Good government always picks on those who have nothing to do with it right?

What effect will this have on the state of Arizona? ZERO as it will only affect the 15 hard working small business owners who had nothing to do with this law and in fact may have even hired illegals themselves as they are all manufacturing companies.

Good Job LA, hit em where it hurts! :error

Acting decisively, L.A.'s City Council adopted a strongly worded resolution that wishes the city's budget deficit would "go away really soon, like in the next three months or so."

Alleged Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa drafted the statement after rejecting calls for Los Angeles to declare bankruptcy or shrink its bloated pension system.

"This was the only viable alternative," the mayor said, noting that officials from Greece and Congress have already contacted the city for details on the program.

After the resolution passed, Villaraigosa and several City Council members climbed onto their unicorns and rode off into a rainbow-filled sunset.

He did this to hide something else. Villaraigosa is a slick mother fucker. He's like the Carlos Mencia of Mayor's, uses a fake Hispanic background to get his way.

God, no kidding. Now's the time to drive business, any kind of business, OUT of LA? Is that his way of trying to blow Obama for some federal aid or what?

JaneB 05-13-2010 08:21 PM

LA should worry about their own city. LA has had so many cases of cops and racism it is not even funny. AZ should boycott LA, they will suffer much worse.

kane 05-13-2010 09:09 PM

I think this has nothing to do with them actually opposing the law the AZ and a more to do with the fact that tens of thousands of illegals that were living in AZ are now heading for Cali. Cali isn't happy about that and they want someone to pay for it.

That's my thinking:2 cents:

Speaking of checkpoints, a couple of years ago I was driving up I-5 between Oceanside and San Clemente, where that checkpoint is. They stopped the Izuzu Truck in front of me with weapons drawn. They must have had at least 20 Mexicans lying side by side ontop of each other in the back. It was like watching a clown car at the circus. The only thing I could think of at the time was how unsafe that was and if they had gotten into a wreck. Damn Shame.

Spanx!

Clearly you need to be banned

baddog 05-17-2010 12:55 PM

I have decided to continue my LA ban.

BestXXXPorn 05-17-2010 12:56 PM

Comparing this to Nazi Germany if fucking ludicrous...

First... they aren't even LEGALLY in the US... Jews were German citizens.

Second... they're being sent back to where they came from and are a legal citizen of... They aren't going to a concentration camp.

If they are hiring illegals I have zero sympathy for them as they are part of the problem. :2 cents:

California is an entitlement state and drives business out of the state. Many companies that are in California have LLC's in Nevada. Way too liberal in leadership and too much paid out for anchor babies to welfare.

Sometimes it's not the case. My friend worked for a frozen food manufacture until very recently. They hired people that were able to show IDs and have a social security number. It can take months to years for the government to report that there was a problem with the social security number on the W9s. He knew that most of the staff was probably not legal but what do you do if they show paperwork?

AZ is a right to work state. If he thinks they are illegals he is within his right to not hire them.

Vendzilla 05-17-2010 01:43 PM

Oh no, a possible back fire?

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010...owing-boycott/

Roughly 2 million Arizonans visit San Diego each year but the recession has taken a toll on the hotel industry that was hoping for a comeback this year. Hotels are offering deep discounts to fill up their undersold rooms while the tourism board spends $7 million this spring and summer season to promote travel to the area.

JP-pornshooter 05-17-2010 01:48 PM

i cant see how the politicians have a right to do this.
sure if they consider it to be wrong then sue them but AZ should have a right to do what they want to do as long as it is constitutionally legal, this is some sort of favoritism game..
FUCK THAT

and yeah, fix the goddamn budget now, stupid ass Schwarzenegger should never have take that car tax down, and he did it during GOOD TIMES when everybody could afford to pay little extra tax, especially on the gas guzzlers...
they are experts in wasting funds while the public schools are going down the drain, now ranking some 40th in the nations, WELL DONE GUBERNATOR

The in laws are coming to town for my birthday this week and they wanted to go to sea world and Disney land during their visit....... we all agreed to put the axe in that. We will be spending our money in Arizona, relaxing by a stream in Sedona :thumbsup

Tanker 05-17-2010 01:55 PM

Why doesn't AZ ship its illegals in buses to LA then!

Follow the buses to the border of AZ and California to make sure they are not getting off while still in AZ

I am all for REAL immigration but not border jumpers!

EZRhino 05-17-2010 01:56 PM

Stupid fucking Mexican activists. They honestly believe they speak for the whole hispanic population. Any central american or south american will tell you, Mexican activists are full of shit and the most racist culture, next to those white pride assholes.

That would probably make more sense if either were located in LA. Neither are even in LA County, much less the City of LA.

I wouldn't be too upset about that. Had they gotten that money they just would have wasted it somewhere else and the end result would still be the same: no money.

Varius 05-17-2010 02:12 PM

I fail to see the huge problem with the recent Arizona events.

If you are legal, you don't have a problem. Someone stops you on the street, you show ID (like dozens of other countries), no problem.

Think of it like showing ID at a bar. Sometimes, hot girls or a guy who pulls up in a $200K car walk right in, while you (who looks 35) are asked for ID. Same thing here; except rather than looks or status, it's race.

The ones all up in arms are more than likely illegal or have family members who are illegal. They don't like it, no one is forcing them to live in Arizona.

It's kind of like here on GFY, those who whine and act out the loudest, are generally the people making the least money / have no traffic.

actually it has to do with different taxes are earmarked for certain expenses.
the car tax was for schools and education. since it was canceled they had to fund this from the general fund which is now again being depleted..
