Question about selling content

Hi All,

Quick question:

What is the best method, script, etc, for selling individual videos, photos or galleries via a 3rd party payment processor like CCBill or Epoch?

For example, selling a membership is super-easy, and all of your content is just behind /members/ or some other u/p protected directory.

But if your video content is there too, and you want to sell access to just 1 file (or maybe just 1 directory), how could it be done?

Such as a clip store?

When I used to do that I simply had a directory with the file, and an index page linking to the file for easy download, then I used verotel to sell non recurring 24 hour access to the folder. Plenty of time to download the vid they paid for.

Basically exactly the same way as you would sell a recurring membership to a folder called members on a members site, but just this folder only had the one vid, and you only paid a small fee for 24 hours non recurring access.

Was very simple to do. Once they had paid verotel, they were redirected to that folder with the username and pass they had chosen. No scripts or anything else to complicate the matter.

Hi CS,

Thanks for the info! That seems like a pretty straight-forward way of doing it. Did you experience any problems?

None whatsoever. I had a folder called clips that wasn't protected, but unless there was an index in it, the contents did not display - that's how the server was setup. Then, I'd add individual clips in folders as and when I wanted. A folder called 'mandy' for example with mandys vid and an index linking to it in.

I'd then submit the url of mysite/clips/mandy/ to verotel and they would send me back a link that generated a pay now button. I'd put the 'pay now' button on mandys video for sale page and thats all there was to it...

The joy of having the clips folder that you couldnt see in, was I could add as many different clips as I wanted in one go, but not have to worry about anyone finding them before they were protected, as no one knew what the folders were called expt me, and they couldn't view them.

It really was that simple and all the tech stuff with the protection, usernames, passwords etc etc was all done by verotel automatically one I submitted a new folder to them.

Simples...

If you have good and original content which people want to watch then "rent or buy" VOD is only way to go....On the other hand, if you feed the masses with mass produced or re cycled crap, then the membership is the only way to go and join all the bottom feeders..;)
