Call for Trump impeachment probe gathers momentum

A Massachusetts city is joining a handful of other municipalities across the country in calling for an impeachment investigation of President Donald Trump, based on alleged conflicts of interest.

Cambridge City Council is slated to vote Monday on a resolution calling for the U.S. House of Representatives to begin such an investigation.

The resolution -- which is largely symbolic -- follows similar calls to action by other city councils, including Richmond, Virginia; Berkeley, California; and Alameda, California.

But as ABC News previously reported, in a resignation letter dated Jan. 19 -- the day before his inauguration -- Trump wrote, "I, Donald Trump, hereby resign from each and every office and position I hold in the entities listed." More than 400 entities were listed in the 19-page document.
Trump's lawyers have also previously said that all potential conflicts of interest have been ironed out.

The resolution is being sponsored by Cambridge vice mayor Marc McGovern, councilor Jan Devereux and councilor Leland Cheung, according to the policy order posted on the city's website.

The resolution states, "That the City Council call upon the United States House of Representatives to support a resolution authorizing and directing the House Committee on the Judiciary to investigate whether sufficient grounds exist for the impeachment of Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, including but not limited to the violations of the Foreign Emoluments Clause and the Domestic Emoluments Clause of the United States Constitution."

It continues, "On January 11, 2017, nine days before his inauguration, Donald J. Trump announced a plan that would, if carried out, remove him from day-to-day operations of his businesses, but not eliminate any of the ongoing flow of emoluments from foreign governments, state governments, or the United States government; and on January 20, 2017, Donald J. Trump took the oath of office and became President of the United States."

The resolution further argues, "From the moment he took office, President Trump was in violation of the Foreign Emoluments Clause and the Domestic Emoluments Clause of the United States Constitution."

In attempting to justify its claim that Trump violated the aforementioned clauses, the resolution argues, "On January 11, 2017, nine days before his inauguration, Donald J. Trump announced a plan that would, if carried out, remove him from day-to-day operations of his businesses, but not eliminate any of the ongoing flow of emoluments from foreign governments, state governments, or the United States government."

Such alleged violations, argues the resolution, "undermine the integrity of the Presidency, corruptly advance the personal wealth of the President, and violate the public trust."

Impeachment speculation is the new stock market crash speculation.

Impeachment means shit. It just means that there is enough evidence to go to trial. Being found guilty is a whole different ball of wax

Well obviously being arrested doesn't mean shit unless you get convicted either, but it is a pretty important first step.

Based on this dude's tweets this morning, he is out of his league. President Xi is going to eat his lunch next week. He simply isn't smart enough to do this job. He has a base level understanding of some right wing complaint about every issue that goes no where when he is confronted with the actual problem to solve. He can't let go of the election, both when it comes to stroking his own ego and slights against him in a contest in which he hands down won. He is like a QB in the Superbowl that jabbers on and own about some College game where he threw for 4 TDs and finger-banged Sandy Rottensnatch after the game. Then goes on for some reason about some late hit penalty in game he won. Weird.

I don't think he worked with Russia during the election. Because echoing Mark Cuban, he really isn't smart enough to do that. I do think there is something in his taxes that will be a clear conflict and will sink him. He will end up running the swampiest Whitehouse ever if this lasts 4 years, Nixon included. He is going to steal from the poor and give to the rich and his supporters for the most part are too stupid to see it. This guy has no idea what it is like to ever go out with less then 10s of thousands of dollars in his pocket let along having $20 to feed your kids for week. Not his fault, but he doesn't care to learn about either it which is his fault.

He just wants to win without doing the reading or the work, and that won't work. When he was doing real estate with daddy's money that was easy this is hard. DJT doesn't do hard. DJT, bullies, walks out on his bills, golfs, and brands his name out very well. This is not branding and this isn't reality T.V.

The sooner this guy is gone the better. :thumbsup

Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about a blowjob, Trump has lied about a lot worse.

You're a white nationalist racist in Holland that praises Putin and loves Trump.

Meanwhile your white nationalist candidate in Holland, Geert Wilders, just LOST! Your white nationalist movement is dead, thanks to Trumps failures & flaws telegraphed worldwide. Thank Trump for giving you lefty Mark Rutte as your new elected leader.

You know Trump is on trial in Kentucky for inciting violence right? The judge refused to dismiss Trumps case siting case law from the 1960's riots. Seriously though, I don't think he'll be jailed but he deserves it for what he's done already and the implications it will have on our country.

jbvryant 04-03-2017 10:25 AM

They better make it count. I think there's only allowed one impeachment per year.

maybe trump is crafty enough that he doesn't need to be smart... seems to work for mrs Clinton... and it's not like you need to be Einstein to be pres.....

one this is very certain for sure. he is smarter than all the whiny fucks here at GFY and Huffington post or one of them would be president of the United States of America. :2 cents:

No one is crying because Trump is president. He was elected, and now he is our president. We are less than two months and short of playing golf he hasn't accomplished anything, is BY FAR the most unpopular president we've had in decades, and is knee deep in a scandal that has already force one of his top advisers to resign and seek immunity in what might make Watergate look like child's play.

Unless he starts WWIII, things couldn't get much worse - although we seem to be heading down that route too.

You're not a very good antagonist you should stick with what you're good at.

Obama? I am talking about today. Let's do that. The kids at Berkley will pay plenty of taxes. The folks in the ghetto will serve at a higher rate then the rich will. Service Trumps tax dollars.

Trump is not crafty. Trump was born with the advantage of being incredibly, incredibly wealthy. I am not even sure why you replied to this, your post offered very little of interest. Sorry to be blunt.

the question wasn't that... he succeeding in accomplishing one of the hardest tasks possible, something that less than 50 people accomplished during entire US history... so lets be real, he may appear like one, but he is no idiot...

No, he is an idiot. A complete, total, and utter idiot.

We are now two months in and after all of his promises, all he has accomplished is playing a lot of golf. We are two months in, a high level adviser has been forced to resign, and his entire administration is under investigation. At the same time he has fucked up everything else. The healthcare bill went down in flames, his first military action resulted in Americans being killed and dozens of civilians getting killed, and we walked away from the TPP which allowed China to walk in and do what it wants.

This is ONLY the first two months.

I am a Marine, and as such I believe in "We serve at the pleasure of the President". Any other president, Republican or Democrat, I've stood behind them, I've supported them, and when I didn't agree with them I at least allowed them a chance. Not Trump. He has no clue of what he is into.

He is a complete idiot.
