word Sarah and J

Ochie has had some crazy hard storms over the past week (last one thus far was today) but nothing compared to what happened to the DR, TCI, Cuba, Bahamas and FL. just naming nations/states hit off the top of my head, sure there's more. two diff weather masses, super fun

I recall watching footage of the aftermath of Katrina. people who survived sitting on rooftops with their pets and refusing airlifts cuz they wouldn't accept dogs, cats etc etc on the helicopters

tbh in that circumstance I'd do the same. no fucking way I'd leave my babies behind. ever

was the same with the shelters for survivors who managed to get out before the floods reached the second story of houses

emergency protocol in every nation capable of providing any assistance to people in times of disaster should recognize that sometimes peeps have beloveds that aren't human. there doesn't seem to be much recognition of that

I think everyone here in the affected zones got through it ok. I hope so anyway

Glad to know your pets are safe :)
Sucks to know some people leave their pets behind, like this https://twitter.com/MeganScavo/statu...56353865510912
But lucky some good samaritans come to help, sometimes

that twittter vid is hype, dude is the fucking shit. platonically in love with him-noticed how he petted the cat before he picked her/him up, and how that cat clung to him?

during the aftermath of Katrina I recall Anderson Cooper of the exquisite bone structure interviewing a dude who refused to go into a shelter cuz they wouldn't accept his dog. he was poor and I'm assuming his friends were as well and also lost their homes. so nowhere to shelter the dog

Cooper on the spot decided to take the dog on the CNN jet when he left, until dude got situated

so yeah, tons of good peeps out there, but people in disaster zones shouldn't have to rely upon samaritans. luckily we do tend to step up for each other

my little ones are fine, thanks :)

the thunder a little disconcerting to one of them but, but for power outages (expecting another, new storm rolling in) she's being brave and doesn't even hide under the bed anymore. or get near the candles I light at night to read, or dance if I have friends over

mah girl :rasta

yup i noticed that too (the pet before picking up) and the cling on, i think that dude definitely is a cat daddy, he knew how to comfort then pickup. Good stuff, love to see those vids or hear the stories like this.

I think we need an updated cat/dog/pet pics thread, I'd love to see your lil critters :)

interesting histories them both

this is Scrappy aka Scrapster or Scrappy-do, named by my ex (she was his cat until he gave her to me) cuz she walks with menace. scared of thunder but moves like a shark and is a true survivor. was found in the wilderness while my fam and ex were out on a hike (staying at their place in between Caribbean moves). there's an exotic cat mill about 20 miles away that she evidently escaped from. was thin and tattered with a rat tail, now properly cared for she's lush with a bushy tail (which she wags when she's happy-so funny) and does not take any shit. except from thunder or other cats. sweet and gentle girl

I love her so, when my ex asked me if I wanted to take her I coulda cried with joy but I don't cry in front of others. my reply was "in a fucking heartbeat"

(dude in blue in the corner is my best friend D who is Uncle D to them. they absolutely adore him)

Bika (named after South African freedom fighter Steve Biko, just feminized it cuz she's a girl) was found on a street corner in Kingston JA and some blessed soul took her and her siblings to the shelter

her full name is Baby Bunny Bika-chu

I had recently lost a cat (RIP) and Scraps was lonely (prob my ex was as well) and I was grieving hard

he went to the shelter alone-if I went I'd end up adopting all of them :upsidedow

Bika and her sibs were apparently 'too young' to be adopted but she came right up to my ex and started licking his hands. prob cuz he had the scent of Burger King on them-very healthy appetite that girl. she'll even eat lettuce

my ex was like, 'this is my cat'. the shelter person replied that she wasn't ready, still needed to be spayed and get her second round of shots and he replied 'I don't think you understand, this is my cat and I'm taking her home today'

an eventual acquiescence when he showed ID, gave a working phone number and promised to take her back for her second round of shots and the spaying operation (free vet care!! like we wouldn't have taken her back anyway but that's a golden offer)

fell in love with her the 1st moment I saw her, she was my cat from day one

https://i.imgur.com/ZnOlD8d.jpg

just glad she's grown now so I don't have to worry about stepping on her or smothering her in my sleep. first actual kitten I've ever had, was terrifying lol

so I've shown you mine, you show us yours =p
