How long does the coughing last?

CaptainHowdy 01-07-2011 05:14 PM

Stay strong! Go see a doctor if the cough persists...

Serge Litehead 01-07-2011 05:16 PM

until shit clears in the air valves

Voodoo 01-07-2011 05:20 PM

It's nice to smell my clothes and have them smell clean or to kiss my lady and not have her say "You smell like an ashtray!".

Deej 01-07-2011 05:26 PM

good man!

Serge Litehead 01-07-2011 05:26 PM

congrats! would taking something like mucinex help?

ruff 01-07-2011 06:19 PM

It keeps getting better the longer you are off cigs. Stay quit the first time because it's too damn hard to quit the second time.

facialfreak 01-07-2011 11:45 PM

7 days for me too!

Barry-xlovecam 01-08-2011 12:22 AM

I haven't smoked or used any nicotine for 17 + months now.

The first 2 or 3 weeks is the worst. After you a while don't need a smoke any more really ... Roll with it.

Drink cranberry juice it's supposed to help eliminate the nicotine.

NetHorse 01-08-2011 12:28 AM

Smoke free for over 4 years. Smoked for 8. Your lungs are healing. You can try doing some steam inhaling if it's bad.

Good luck and don't give up, cigarettes are fucking disgusting. Looking back now I don't even know how I smoked them for so long.

HBKKH 01-08-2011 12:43 AM

stay away from booze or you'll be right back with a cool smoke in hand

loreen 01-08-2011 02:52 AM

Really, congrats and hope you'll stay on the right path! :)

munki 01-08-2011 02:54 AM

CamsMaster 01-08-2011 03:16 AM

These are for gays :) The REAL MAN must be able to resist the problem alone.

Voodoo 01-08-2011 10:11 AM

I tried the e-cigs, but ended up with a raging cough from that since it injects steam into your lungs along with nicotine. I also read that any quitting aids only prolong the terror of quitting and drag-out the withdrawals, since they keep a small amount of nicotine in your system, it keeps you in withdrawal state for as long as you use them. I tried the gum and patches, but after a couple days, I quit those also and decided to Raw-Dog it... commando style.

So far, on Day 8 now, it seems to be getting easier, except for if I get into confrontation as Antonio mentioned, those times... I found that if you just go bang it out w/ your GF (or whoever), all is well.

Thanks for all the support! :) I'm glad to see that others are quitting also.

Over the last year, I cut down from:

10 to 20 per day to...
5 to 10 per day to...
1 to 5 per day to...
1 to 4 per day to...
1 to 3 per day....
And the occasional 1 or 2 cigs per day, but it was VERY difficult to break 1 to 3.

Anyhow, I started with forcing myself to NOT have the habitual smokes...
1. When I wake up.
2. After food.
3. When first getting into a car.
4. After sex.
5. With coffee.
6. With alcohol.
7. When taking breaks.

And so on. When those times would come around, I would simple not smoke, and would wait until after the craving passed to have a cig.

That has helped with quitting a lot more than I probably realize. I think if I were still a pack-a-day, I don't know that I would be able to do it.

So, just an FYI for anyone else looking to quit... The hard part is breaking the habit, if you do that before you try quitting, your chances increase significantly of quitting for good.

CamTraffic 01-08-2011 10:26 AM

Kuddos for all of you trying to quit
I need to do the same

BareBacked 01-08-2011 11:46 AM

have you started exercising?
Doing cardio daily really helped me see my health coming back and kept me off the cigs.
The improvments are amazingly fast

The coughing is from the steam breaking up the gunk in your lungs... I switched to vaporizing and that is what "cleaned" my lungs. It was absolutely terrible. If you keep doing it, you'll have teary eyes, gagging, and they you'll start seeing chunks of black shit in what you cough up. Horrible shit. But cleansing.

I don't know anything about those e-cigs but it sounds like they are along the same thing. You will get the nicotine but the steam/vapor will actually help you. It's a real bitch though, you'll cough like you've never coughed before.

I can only assume that it would help clean your lungs faster. I was never a cig smoker like I said but holy shit I was a heavy bong smoker and 2-3 months of vaporizing I never felt soooo good in my life!

good luck! congrats on choosing to be healthy!
