Palin fucks up again: "Blood libel"

.. pissing off the jewish community ( except The Demon ) :

Blood libel ? what does it mean?

Sarah Palin borrows phrase from a notorious passage in the Bible to condemn the Arizona shootings

Tea Party favourite brands linking her rhetoric and 'crosshairs' map with the shootings in Arizona as 'blood libel'

Sarah Palin's use of the phrase "blood libel" could scarcely be more incendiary, especially in a religious country like the US.

The blood libel refers specifically to perhaps the most notorious verse in the Bible: Matthew 27:25, which has been used by some Christians to persecute Jews for nearly 2,000 years. That it should be used by an avowedly Christian politician about a Jewish one just takes crassness and insensitivity to a new level.

One can only hope that Palin, or her advisers, did not appreciate the context, or the history. The verse in Matthew refers to the scene during Christ's trial before Pontius Pilate, before his execution, where the Roman governor, not being able to find fault with the accused man, publicly washed his hands of his fate, saying the crowd bore responsibility for his death.

The Gospel says the crowd shouted back: "His blood be on us and on our children," a phrase taken by Christians for centuries to indicate that the Jewish people as a whole and for perpetuity bore direct responsibility for the crucifixion and were therefore fair game for persecution and extermination.

It has been used to justify pogroms, expulsions and discrimination and has fed Christian myths, such as those circulating in the middle ages, that Jews kidnapped and sacrificed Christian children to use their blood during Passover commemorations.

It took until the post-Holocaust period for organisations such as the Roman Catholic church to acknowledge the sensitivity of the phrase. Only in recent years has the famous Oberammergau passion play in southern Germany cut the words.

In 2004, Mel Gibson claimed he had excised the line from his gory film, The Passion of the Christ, owing to Jewish sensitivities, though scholars noted he actually retained it ? in Aramaic

Just saw a commerical for the local news here and it talked about if "Palin was taking down the tea party all by herself". I thought that was comical.

I hate this dizzy broad, however to her credit, this video is pretty professional. She seems calm and really seems to know what she's saying. I will have to read up on what Blood Libel means to comment on that part but there's no doubt in my mind that this video cost a few bucks to put together. I hate to say it but she looks "responsible" in that video, and the American Flag beside her makes her look... gulp... presidential. (We're all doomed!)

I've been watching the news (on various networks) and again to Palin's credit, the cross-hairs on the dems who voted for healthcare on that map from last year is just a stupid mistake on her part and probably (hopefully) not intentional.

If any influences contributed to that madman's decision to kill all those people, I wouldn't say its political per se, but more importantly the NEWS. Fox news especially is just so full of passionate hate, and brand everything they see as Anti-American. Of course other news channels are guilty too. Keith Oberman for example is someone I just started watching. I think the guy's brilliant but I can see hate in his face any time someone fucks up. All this hate is bound to push another person over the edge in the future.

I sure wouldn't want to be on Palins kill list...

MetaMan 01-12-2011 11:21 PM

Palin is 100% the next president of the united states. it has been set up years ago.

Vendzilla 01-12-2011 11:23 PM

I thought Palin was responsible for the debt this week? Last week it was global warming

Palin will never be president. Something pretty spectacular would have to happen to overcome the general public's polled distaste for her. She is immensely popular with a small amount of voters (conservative males). If anything I think most libs would be hoping for Palin to be #1 on the ballot. Unless Obama screams "Death to whitey!" whilst burning a flag at the superbowl there shouldn't be much of an issue.

Did you seriously just start this thread and fail to mention the true meaning of Blood Libel?

It is the accusation that Jews murdered Christian children to drain their blood and make Matzoh bread for a yummy Passover meal.

My hairy nad sack looks more Presidential than Palin.

I like people to act a bit to educate themselves , like .. search .. or even click on another article from the same paper , but there was a pretty good description of what the term refers to.

As for TheKing " Alan Dershowitz " comment, I am sure that in the 30-40's , there was a least one jew that was supporting the nazis position .... :2 cents:

I used some of those bullets on one of my metal targets, now it has holes in it, LOL

PR_Glen 01-13-2011 09:37 AM

she obviously meant for it to be used it in a different context. I bet none of you ever heard the term before people started ringing alarms and looked it up for you...

she's dumb and her speech writer didn't do his/her research.. case closed...

The Demon 01-13-2011 09:43 AM

Glen you made the classic mistake of using common sense. This will throw the morons off. Shame on you.

Slutboat 01-13-2011 09:43 AM

I'm really curious to know if Meta Man was joking about her being the next President?

You can't possibly be that fucking stupid Meta Dork...can you?

And set up years ago? McCain suprised even his most senior aids when he suddenly chose her out of the blue.
