First day on Windows 7

My work computer sort of had a melt down over the weekend and had to be rebuilt. My husband decided it was time for me to go to Windows 7. I hate change when it comes to opperating systems. So, am sort of not looking forward to this change either. Anybody been on Windows 7 for a while now and love it or hate it?

there's absolutely nothing to hate about win7, very good and stable OS

Welcome to the dark side

BittieBucks Eric 01-17-2011 04:51 AM

I love W7. I needed a few days to get used to some quirky things but I really like it a lot. Fast as well. Vista was complete shit.

Sarah_Jayne 01-17-2011 04:54 AM

I couldn't stand Vista and moved back to XP because it just annoyed me too much.

right mouse click on Computer
goto Properties
click Advanced system settings on left-side menu
click on Advanced tab
goto Performance Settings
select Adjust for best Performance and apply if you miss older interface ;)

this will roll back windows classic interface and get rid of aero effects
i used to do this with XP because hated their blue fake plastic looking theme.

roly 01-17-2011 05:06 AM

best windows OS so far and i've used them all with the exception of vista.

kane 01-17-2011 05:17 AM

I made the switch over the Holidays. I had some issues with the install, but I love Windows 7. I have noticed my computer running faster and better than it ever has with it. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but in the end it is very nice.

rogueteens 01-17-2011 05:18 AM

in fairness, win 7 is pretty close to XP in looks, i swapped over at the end of last year and the transition wasn't too bad.

I'm using Windows 7 on one of my desktops (more than 1 year) and one notebook (about 6 months) and can definitely say it's a real pain in the ass. I hate Windows 7 which even worse than Vista. Even Microsoft has no idea why two operating systems with the same core (Vista is NT 6.0 and Windows 7 is NT 6.1) have different system requirements, because even according to the official docs, Windows 7 needs more resources than shitty Vista. :disgust

Windows 7 actually runs worse if aero is turned off, regardless of hardware.

Sly 01-17-2011 06:46 AM

I don't really understand the complaints about looks. I have Vista and XP, I have them set up to look the exact same way. I'm sure 7 has the same ability.

Example? I have no problems whatsoever.

spazlabz 01-17-2011 06:48 AM

I have had win 7 for about 8 months now. I think it is a mixed bag, there are some things about it I am not crazy about but overall I think it is probably the best OS micro$oft has made

tranza 01-17-2011 06:49 AM

How do you like it so far??

John-ACWM 01-17-2011 08:23 AM

I had Vista and liked it and switched to 7 and it's better. I guess you'll love it pretty soon.

woj 01-17-2011 08:55 AM

if you have modern hardware there is nothing at all wrong with it, takes a while to get used to, but best operating system they came up with so far... :thumbsup

HomerSimpson 01-17-2011 08:57 AM

W7 simply rocks...
I'm more productive on it that I was on XP....

djroof 01-17-2011 08:59 AM

just like it ;)

Still on XP, I'm afraid of the switch :D

How exactly Windows 7 is better than Vista? Please no "I think that...", "it seems like...", "for my personal feeling it's better..." No bullshit, facts please.

If you have a possibility to stay with XP (you don't have a super-new notebook which has Windows 7 drivers only), here is my advice: NEVER DO THIS!

Windows XP (NT 5.1 / NT 5.2) is the BEST operating system released by Microsoft for all the time.

bns666 01-17-2011 11:29 AM

i recently upgraded xp->7 on laptop and no problems so far

Ross 01-17-2011 11:45 AM

First day I wanted to throw my PC out the window, second day onwards I love it. Probably gonna get it on my laptop too or just buy a new laptop. My Dell is only 2 years old tho and still works perfectly fine so getting Windows 7 might be best until it dies on me.

just a punk 01-17-2011 11:48 AM

2 y/o notebook is a VERY OLD hardware. What's the reason you have decided to install crashy Windows 7 on it???

jonnydoe 01-17-2011 11:54 AM

Xp still works fine for me and it is not a resource hog so I don't see any advantage to upgrading although I probably will on my next custom build.

bronco67 01-17-2011 12:08 PM

Check some of the other tons of threads on this. Most of the reaction is overwhelmingly positive. I run it on 6 different machines and have no problems with high end 3d animation.

One of the best things is the networking. When I install 7 on a new machine, it picks up my network immediately and gets it on the internet within seconds of virgin boot. Not that it should be any amazing feat, but for Windows, it definitely is.

onedree 01-17-2011 12:21 PM

Doesn't allow .mix files from 'Micosoft's Picture it'
(Even with the OSs compatibility feature.

Many of my sons older games conflict this OS.

I am extremely disappointed with this operating system

Scott McD 01-17-2011 12:24 PM

I'm not too worried about the day i make the change to Windows 7, since i'm still on Vista. So if anything it can only be a good thing...

Emil 01-17-2011 12:39 PM

Just stick with it a few days. I'm sure you'll like it soon!

V_RocKs 01-17-2011 01:06 PM

It works pretty good. It will be an upgrade. Once you learn to use it you can get stuff done faster then on XP without needing third party software.

Zuzana Designs 01-17-2011 01:18 PM

I have a couple PC's running windows 7 and so far so good. I have nothing bad to say about it yet.

TeenSluts 01-17-2011 01:30 PM

love windows 7

Except all the bloatware, the gaping security holes that allow viruses, spyware and malware in and its a memory hog. Ran it for 3 days before getting sick of it, taking back my laptop and paying double the price for a Macbook. So yea, it sucks.

stay off the torrent sites and you wont get hacked as much ;)

But I can do all the same things on my Mac I did on Windows like torrent sites and I dont have to worry about viruses :thumbsup That alone makes it worth the extra money to go Mac.

Everyone else here says nothing but positive things, and you're the one naysayer. You should download Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and works great. Windows leaves it up to you to protect your computer, which is actually a good thing. Don't blame the OS because you visit the scummy underbelly of the internet and pick up every virus known to man.

2intense 01-17-2011 02:28 PM

windows 7 is great

jigg 01-17-2011 03:45 PM

if it wasn't for my crappy hard drive I'd love it more. I've been on it since it was a beta and it will take a lot of kicking and screaming to make me change to XP or even Vista, which I have on the laptop, and am itching to upgrade!

PornDude 01-17-2011 04:02 PM

Great.. what took you so long to upgrade?

Just in case.. anyone wants to buy BuyWindows8.com domain add me to icq :)

Lester Burnham 01-17-2011 04:30 PM

Like it. I was primarily a windows user for the past 20 years, but Vista just fuckin' sucked so bad that I moved to Mac. I liked the Mac, but clients mostly use windows apps and my biz's networking stuff is MS, so it just became a hassle so I switched back to Windows (plus, Mac hardware service fucking sucks like no other, I mean really, pay a $1,700 "flat fee" to fix a minor part in my computer????!!).

Only downside is Outlook crashes a ton which is annoying as hell.

We'll yes OLD shit is not going to work on a new OS since that software wasn't designed for it. I was so angry when my colecovison games wouldn't work on my XBOX 360. I was like WTF I paid money for these. Then when my VHS tapes wouldn't work on my blu-ray player. Oh man. Then I really got frustrated when I couldn't find how to play my music cassette collection on a MP3 player.

YOU suck. Yes macs don't allow viruses. You believe that shit. Security through obscurity is not security at all.

Serge Litehead 01-17-2011 05:01 PM

first day use - if you get tired of constant bombardment of alert and confirmation popups, its easily fixed:

in control panel, goto User Accounts, click Change user control settings and set to to Never notify.

that's the only feature that left instant bad impression for me while trying out vista or win7 for the first time

JosephFM 01-17-2011 05:07 PM

I'am a mac user but over the weekend I had to buy a PC with W7 for my biz and the only problem I have is that W7 doesn't recognize my wireless network.

Maybe I have to upload new firmware for my modem but I don't know.

Any W7 users here had that problem?
