Ashley Madison Super Bowl Ad Rejected By Fox

Fox has rejected a Super Bowl ad from Ashley Madison, the online dating service for people trying to have affairs. Though the ad does not contain Ashley Madison's somewhat unconventional slogan--"Life is short. Have an affair"--Fox said that its Standards and Practices division "has deemed the Ashley Madison spot is not acceptable to air on FOX."

It's the second year in a row that the site has tried to get an ad in the big game. Last year, NBC also rejected an Ashley Madison ad.

ShellyCrash will be in here shortly to explain how Ashley Madison never wanted their commercial approved in the first place. :winkwink:

It's all about media manipulation.

96ukssob 01-20-2011 10:41 PM

Not a surprise there...

mynameisjim 01-20-2011 10:43 PM

That scam is getting so old I don't know why the press still falls for it. Submit an ad you know will get rejected then send out a million press releases saying your super bowl ad was rejected.

Same here.

DateDoc 01-20-2011 10:54 PM

The gay dating ad rejected las year was from an AM site too. Must have worked so well last year they did it again this year with their main site.

WiredGuy 01-20-2011 10:57 PM

There's a better ROI in publicizing that your ad was rejected than paying Fox 2-3 million for 30 seconds of adspace.

mynameisjim 01-20-2011 11:01 PM

I'm not saying it's not smart, it's just been done for years. I'm surprised the media outlets still fall for it but I guess with so many blogs to fill, they have to publish something.

GoDaddy pioneered that shit. Put an add that will be thrown out and post it on your site or make it viral on youtube.

pamon 01-20-2011 11:49 PM

too much $$ for an ad IMHO. plenty of losers who'll pay big $$ on that site and get no action. GD usually is pretty close to the line but a big broadcast like this is gonna get real tight lipped on content/type of ads.

BSleazy 01-20-2011 11:59 PM

I don't even see why godaddy pays for that. Little to nobody watching the super bowl is gonna buy domains or hosting. The people like us that buy these things won't be manipulated by some stupid superbowl ad.

You are clueless as to what the public buys apparently. :1orglaugh

KillerK 01-21-2011 01:04 AM

glad they denied it.

a site dedicated to helping guys/girls fuck over their partners isn't right.

Looks like they had a spike right about the super bowl time last year... I wonder if we will see the same spark this year.

Virtually anyone that I have talked to that is non-adult uses Go Daddy in one form or another. I think that some of them believe that GoDaddy is the only place you can get domains.

_Richard_ 01-21-2011 09:51 AM

thought they just did it so they can get in the news

Caligari 01-21-2011 09:57 AM

they also rejected ads for my site called "Anal Gaping Teen Cheerleaders" but it didn't get nearly the media publicity that Ashley Madison recieved.

hey at least mine has a theme tie in with cheerleaders.

V_RocKs 01-21-2011 10:02 AM

That ad looked like contestants from the losing team of The Apprentice created it. No wonder it wasn't accepted.

I can't imagine why they would reject that?! :winkwink:

It was pretty awful, but I think that's also part of the game. They're stepping it up a bit this year to put out a commercial that not only gets banned but also has such a WTF factor they are probably looking for it to go viral.

I'm surprised it's still working but I don't shit on them for it, if it's still working why stop? It is smart & they absolutely have the most amazing PR guy in our industry. :2 cents:

They knew it would be rejected. This is cheaper press.

Isn't Ashley Madison the name of the student/stripper character on Californication?

People always "redouble" their partners, without actually "cheating" on them...

Posting from my phone and its a pain in the ass to edit quotes...

No, I know you do not want to ruin their fun, but I also know you have the inside scoop on how they operate and what your response would be.

As to the people questioning why the media buys it ... they buy it because the consumer buys it. Their only goal is advertising revenue and such stories drive it. It is so much cheaper to reprint a press release than it is to do real reporting. This type of press release sounds like reporting to the average consumer.

Media is smart. Consumer sometimes not so much. Sad.

Nope. But I know for sure it drives a ton of traffic. I hope to employ that tactic for a gay porn site we have coming up. Hey, maybe the guy will bite and if he does, it is a sure bet and I will be able to find the money.

People fall for that shit all the time man.

So many people take things literally, or at face value thinking they know what the actual objective is of things. They bitch, whine, moan and bring more attention and free advertising to the initial thing/offer/poster than they could have purchased on their own.

If you know how to work the system, it's awesome to reverse engineer the simpletons.
:thumbsup
