I love how an opinion is being offered before the speech even starts. Still a min to go.

Rochard 01-25-2011 07:02 PM

What did people really expect with Obama? Did we really think he would flick a switch and everything would be better? Bush left us with the highest deficit ever - EVER - and left our country in financial ruin (not to mention two wars). This isn't going to be fixed in four years. And I have news for you, it's not going to be fixed in eight years either.

I'm not a Democrat, and I know the American people demand instant gratification... But it's just not gonna happen.

Let's see if the Republican party is going to offer up some thing better than Grandpa chipmunk and his Alaskan sidekick.

MaDalton 01-25-2011 07:04 PM

ok, i'm in... let's see what he has to say, his recent raise on approval ratings must piss the tea baggers off immensely

Juicy D. Links 01-25-2011 07:04 PM

I am watching it in 3D

That's youth for you.

I heard a saying if you are under 40 and not a liberal, you have no heart.
If you are over 40 and not a conservative, you have no brain.

Im so disappointed in barry but there is no one worth a shit on the other side. I think no one can fix this, they found cheaper worker bees to replace us. 10 percent will be the new normal.

Whats wrong with that? That is what spreading the wealth is all about. :thumbsup

Ron Paul would have already had us in recovery. Like predicted all of the Progressive, both Republican and Democrat, policies have extended this recession and there is no end in sight because they continue to want to make the same mistakes over and over again.

This new republican congress wont do shit and will "work with Obama" and more progressive and corporatist polices (slightly less progessive than the left wants) will take place and we wont see a recovery for another 4+ years.

Let things fail so we can fucking finally reset. Right now we are on pause and the play button is broken.

DaddyHalbucks 01-25-2011 07:42 PM

Who cares what Obama says? He has proven himself to be a massive liar. He makes Bill Clinton look like an amateur prevaricator.

The economy won't improve until Obama is voted out of office.

This generation will hopefully have its Jimmy Carter/ Ronald Reagan moment, when the reins are handed over --and things instantly improve.

Not when Bush fucked with the money and never put either war on the budget - or deficit.

No Child Left Behind gone! That's my favorite part, oh and when he recognized oil companies are making some good coin.

ron paul would've just let everything collapse and right now there'd be war in the streets

The phrase originated with Francois Guisot (1787-1874): "Not to be a
republican at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is
proof of want of head." It was revived by French Premier Georges
Clemenceau (1841-1929): "Not to be a socialist at twenty is proof of
want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head."

Long before movies
Also attributed to Winston Churchill
?If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain.?

I highly doubt it. The assets would have been bought by other companies and some would have lost their jobs but most would have kept their jobs when the assets were bought and we would now be on our way to recovery.

interesting information, thanks. its really amazing what bush got away with and how he prevented the democrat controlled congress from reigning in spending and saving the country.

No Child Left behind is repealed now? Would be the best thing ever to happen to the school systems.

DaddyHalbucks 01-26-2011 12:07 AM

So Obama wants to "cut" spending?

What a joke! This is from the guy who just spent what, $10 trillion?

Translated into reality, his new discipline means he wants to defund something $1 million, and simultaneously spend $1 trillion on new entitlements.

What? The TARP program? There's a decent chance the US is going to profit off that bailout, eh?

Ron Paul = a deflationary collapse of epic proportions.

I can only guess that people that support him and his proposals simply don't really understand what the world would look like afterward.

Kiopa_Matt 01-26-2011 05:54 AM

Anyway, I'm an Obama fag, so I thought the speech was just lovely. :)

Seriously though, does it even matter? US politics is like entertainment for the masses, and none of them actually speak for themselves, because they all have speech writers. It's like watching your favorite TV show, where there's a group of screen writers behind the scenes coming up with all these different plots, to keep you in suspense to see what's going to happen next.

I liked one comment I seen on the net, answering whether or not you're ready for the 2012 US election:

Quote:

I can't wait! I'm a Canadian, so this is blasphemy, but give me a good old rootin' tootin' American election campaign over a hockey game any day! It's TV at its best. Which of her dainty feet will Sarah Palin insert in her pretty mouth next? Who's going get caught talkin' trash into an open mic? Is the Donald going to toss his hat in the ring? Is Nader? Will Hillary swap jobs with Joe? Will Joe pull a "Joe"? Will Hillary pull an upset? It doesn't get better than this, even on skates!
Or another analogy I liked was how US politics is similar to pro wrestling. Inside the ring they absolutely hate each other, and are bitter enemies. Offstage though, they're all good buddies, who hang out together, have a couple drinks, and enjoy the good life.

He said he wanted it repealed and such, so first steps. He has started implementing other programs already that are working that will hopefully replace No Child Left Behind.

DebsDeep 01-26-2011 06:20 AM

I only listen to state of the unions speeches here on GFY, fuck the rest of the world

DWB 01-26-2011 06:22 AM

Oh no deflation?! You mean poor people would actually be able to buy more with their money? That cant happen! We must inflate our money 20% so they can buy less! Why does the government hate poor people?

pornguy 01-26-2011 07:21 AM

Which part of Politician did people miss with this guy. He is the same as all the rest.

CDSmith 01-26-2011 07:31 AM

I realize the need for such speeches, but to me it's just words. It's the action that takes place behind the words that matters. What he does between now and 2012 is what's going to determine whether the country awards him a 2nd term.
