NetHorse 03-11-2011 08:34 AM

Prepare for the worst, and pray for the best; but I don't think any significant tsunami will hit the west coast. I bet the waves will be less than a foot high and do minimal damage.

PR_Glen 03-11-2011 09:08 AM

500 feared dead? Lets say it gets to a thousand... this doesn't even rank up there with the biggest earthquake disasters.. look up Chile.. and thats just in the last 100 years or so since we have been recording...

only thing fucked is people being inept when it comes up to looking up history...

Alprazolam 03-11-2011 09:09 AM

Apparently, they had 8' waves in Crescent City, CA. Coastal homes damaged. Docks wiped out.

DateDoc 03-11-2011 10:41 AM

2nd surge expected in Crescent City. 35 boats damaged, docks and harbor damaged/destroyed. 1st surge filled harbor. 2nd surge expected to breach the harbor. No reposts of injuries or missing persons. News is reporting this will be a 12 hour event and the coast could be affected by more surges until 7pm tonight.

So you're ranking the severity of disasters based on their death tolls?

Japan is prepared because they're frequently hit with earthquakes, and they're trained extensively on what to do when an earthquake hits.

Despite that, the death toll is at 1,000 and climbing. This earthquake was HUGE, and it definitely ranks high up with there as a far as natural disasters. The quake and it's resulting tsunami have caused billions in destruction, leaving millions homeless.

This isn't like a disaster hitting Chile or Haiti, with raggedy houses and huts collapsing killing millions.

This disaster left Osaka, Japan in ruins.

It's a big fucking deal, no one is 'inept' about the history of disasters, especially in our lifetime.

DavieVegas 03-12-2011 02:53 PM
