Do You Listen To XM/Sirius Or Just Local Radio?

I haven't listened to local radio in quite some time, once in a blue moon to listen to the edge morning show in Toronto but almost entirely xm.

Do you guys listen to Satellite radio or local radio?

CaptainHowdy 03-19-2011 08:11 AM

Fortunately no ...

v4 media 03-19-2011 08:22 AM

all the bbc radio channels stream for free online with no adds 6music is good. Good band documentaries aswell.

bronco67 03-19-2011 09:13 AM

I've had xm for about a year in my new car. I had to rent a car for a trip a couple of weeks ago, and had no choice but to listen to terrestrial radio...it was fucking torture. The only rock you can listen to is classic stations that only play Aerosmith and Pink Floyd, and there's no fucking inde/alternative rock. It's just Katy Perry and that stupid FU song by Cee_lo Green on constant loop.

I wanted to stab myself in the neck with a fucking fork.

Regular radio plays nothing but garbage music for the garbage brain dead masses. I can't live without my Sirius XMU indie station -- and Opie and Anthony.

zuffa 03-19-2011 09:39 AM

Internet radio at home, sirius or ipod in the car

fuzebox 03-19-2011 11:08 AM

Haven't even turned on the local radio since getting my Sirius installed... I love being able to choose based on genre. I'm mostly on Lithium and Octane, but some days I'll get some Boneyard and Hair Nation in too.

candyflip 03-19-2011 11:24 AM

We have SiriusXM in our vehicles. I pretty much listen to Opie and Anthony, and that's about it.

We get 5 months for $20, so you can't really beat it.

Scott McD 03-19-2011 11:45 AM

Hardly ever listen to radio now.

The stations here play the same shit on repeat...

2intense 03-19-2011 11:46 AM

Local Radio

CybermedAndy 03-19-2011 11:57 AM

Can't live without my Sirius, had it for years now

SB_Content 03-19-2011 01:19 PM

Sirius/XM. The Iphone App rocks. Howard Stern and Sade 45 "The All Out Show" :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh
AM radio for traffic, news, and the Tech Guy Show.

Jakez 03-19-2011 01:32 PM

Got a year free of Sirius with my car but I didn't subscribe when it expired. Fuck the radio.

TurboAngel 03-19-2011 01:36 PM

Local here.

bignasty 03-19-2011 01:36 PM

Local radio, but I am thinking about getting sirius. I had never listened to it until about a month ago I took a rental car to go on a 13 hour trip and it had the sirius in it. I loved the sirius, thinking of getting it.

facialfreak 03-19-2011 06:06 PM

Slacker Radio (via Blackberry in the car) and TuneIn Radio on the iPad ... over 3500 stations from all over the world including local stations ... very extensive playlists :thumbsup:thumbsup

When your up for renewal tell them you'll cancel and they'll give you the 5 Months for $20 deal. They'll make 2-3 or three other offers first but just keep saying its too expensive.

Supz 03-19-2011 06:21 PM

I listen to Pandora on the computer, local radio in the car, primarily because I enjoy listening to local sports radio. Which I have on all the time if I am in the car.

When your subscription is up, you have to go without it for a month and they'll email you the deal.

It's a special phone number, you can usually find if posted on a forum somewhere and it changes from time to time.

Here's a Slickdeals thread talking about it.

I have an old radio I put on once in a blue moon when I'm in the basement folding laundry or something like that. Local I guess, I certainly would never pay a fee for radio.

I paid $250 for a lifetime subscription about a year ago, probably a mistake but fuck it, I hate monthly bills.

kristin 03-19-2011 09:29 PM

Pandora everywhere.

GARY LEE 03-20-2011 03:34 AM

xm: 7,8,9,20,25,46 are my presets. Now I guess you know how old I am.

james_clickmemedia 03-20-2011 05:39 AM

Activated Satellite radio when I got my car a couple of years ago. Would never go back.

But you have to be careful with the Sirius/xm thing. Even though I love the service, I was ripped off by them for more than what I thought I was supposed to pay, until I called and bitched. They're sneaky, and if I didn't love the stations so much, I would have told them to go fuck themselves.

fris 03-20-2011 06:34 AM

i use the radio stations in itunes

I've done what I said more than once with no issues. We have had one double bill at one point, but it was removed or credted immediately after I mde it known to them.

BVF 03-20-2011 08:07 AM

I had Sirius for a couple of years....Then I got an Iphone and said fuck it....I listen to local radio now and if i need more, I just plug in my iphone and I'll have Pandora, Slacker, my ipod, or other music apps...It's just no need to pay for radio.

BareBacked 03-20-2011 12:14 PM

How do you stream pandora into your car?

Emil 03-20-2011 12:15 PM

http://somafm.com/ - Groove salad ftw!

Chris 03-20-2011 12:15 PM

I use pandora via bluetooth connection from my iphone

NETbilling 03-20-2011 03:25 PM

I have has Sirius for several years now and never listened to FM until recently when I rented a car. I didn't realize just how amazing Sirius is until I had a change to revisit FM.
Full of static and loaded with commercials....

O MARINA 03-20-2011 03:26 PM

Fuck radio and fuck you dh! ;-)

suesheboy 03-20-2011 06:43 PM

Sirius 8 hours or more every day.

My 13 hour drive between houses would be unbearable without howard stern, "NHP, and commercial free music

For those of you who are Pandora fans, also check out Grooveshark. It gives you much more freedom to create the type of stations you like, or you can just listen to albums. It's Pandora improved.

SleazyDream 03-21-2011 01:23 AM

mostly radio and only when driving

GrouchyAdmin 03-22-2011 08:23 AM

I listened to XM everywhere until sirius broke the damn been-forever WMV streamer, and I'm too lazy/busy to make it work on my OS again.

The funny part, though, is the radios themselves rely on the update protocol I used, so my little sig still works:

I find myself usually streaming off of the net, but when I get sick of Pandora playing the same stuff, or the 'all the same hair band crap', or 'electronica from 2001', I'll flick on the radio or grab a CD.

Read my above post....Grooveshark kicks Pandora's ass. They have "Radio" feature which does the same thing as Pandora(but better) and you can also listen to albums and make your own playlists.

I'll have to try that. I just like a 'set and forget so can work without fucking with it', and Grooveshark had so much crap on the main page that after tinkering with it for a couple of minutes, it annoyed me so I started to ignore it.

F-U-Jimmy 03-22-2011 10:11 AM

I burn a CD and listen to that rather that what some radio program wants me to listen to
