Do You Volunteer?

Not just give money, but actually go out and spend your time volunteering ... do you do it?

Imortyl Pussycat 03-21-2011 03:20 PM

Yep, I am taxi driver to elderly and disabled folk once a week. Doing my bit for Cameron's 'Big Society', and it's nice to get away from all that porn and connect with real peeps lol

Scott McD 03-21-2011 03:24 PM

Not proud of it, but umm, No!

Chris 03-21-2011 03:25 PM

Atleast once a month

Seth Manson 03-21-2011 03:32 PM

I do a lot of work for my community. Because the judge told me too. Does that count?

pristine 03-21-2011 03:32 PM

This is actually funny. A friend and I were talking about how hard it is to volunteer now, When it comes to trying to donate your time rather than money you have to jump through so many hoops to prove that you're not some nut case. When its so easy for people that are convicted of crimes to volunteer for the organization simply because a judge said they had to.

just odd.

Vendzilla 03-21-2011 03:39 PM

I use to when I was active with a vet group I was with, next year,I'll find the one in LA and do the same, it's fun

Babaganoosh 03-21-2011 03:43 PM

I give several hours a week to the local humane society. I used to do big brothers but my "little brother" grew up and moved on and I didn't want to get a new one without knowing where I would be long-term.

It's a rewarding feeling. It makes me feel like I earned my spot here on this planet.

baddog 03-21-2011 03:44 PM

I used to. Not so much any more.

BV 03-21-2011 05:37 PM

I show women how to do breast exams every once and a while.

I was joking, I've never been convicted of anything other than speeding.

selena 03-21-2011 06:07 PM

Yes. I do volunteer work that takes 15-20 hours a month.

suesheboy 03-21-2011 06:10 PM

about 20 hours a week.

kristin 03-21-2011 07:38 PM

Nice very cool to hear guys.

Supz 03-21-2011 07:40 PM

I have signed for to donate time to the ASPCA. Believe it or not there is a huge waiting list. First you have to get trained, the waiting list for training is about 6 months from what they are telling me. Then you have to wait to donate the time as there are so many people willing to help. Maybe it is just because of the population level in NYC.

ShellyCrash 03-21-2011 07:42 PM

I used to but haven't for a few years. I'm still very active with several organizations and try to support them financially since I'm not able to give them time. I know that sending someone a check may seem like a cop out but I'm sure many of them appreciate the money just as much, if not more.

I don't know if I'll ever really "retire", but when I slow down I'd like to start a small non profit and give back.

chris_joseph 03-21-2011 07:51 PM

I do, about once a month.

Agent 488 03-21-2011 07:59 PM

was served a hot lunch by a volunteer today.

SleazyDream 03-21-2011 08:22 PM

isn't gfy posting volenteering?

fatfoo 03-21-2011 08:33 PM

I volunteered at a food bank by moving around canned foods. GFY could be considered volunteering. However, my sig is getting sold at $200/month.

Abbie 03-21-2011 08:36 PM

I've done much more since my son is in high school. His high school requirements require that he does x amount of hours in order to graduate. He's already far exceeded those hours and through his volunteer work and a group he participates in, our whole family has been doing more :)

Cyandin 03-21-2011 09:47 PM

Since I'm an avid gardener, I spend some time on weekends I'm not with my son helping out in a garden owned by a local serving center, that provides groceries and fresh produce to needy families.

AndreaM 03-21-2011 09:55 PM

Yes, but not as much as I would like to. The most recent project is Catnippers clinics where they TNR feral cats.

I'm a guardian ad litem, and I help with an international child abuse agency that is run by a good friend of mine. We distribute teaching aids to governments internationally, and help investigate and track down convicted child abuse perps that flee, etc, etc, etc...

If anyone wants to get involved and help, we're always happy to get more!
