Mac users with FCP step inside

See if you can import this raw .MTS file http://jay-rock.com/00000.MTS into FCP by itself and edit it without its orginal directory and coexisting files.

I have a client that cannot import this format without the entire directory structure in tact so if you remove any files from the same folder it shows up as corrupt.

I am on a PC with Premiere CS5 and I can use these files even without the directories or other files. Im not trying to give him everything what was on the card because there was other content in the same folder. Do all MAC FCP user have this same issue and what is the possible solution if that is the case.

Downloading now, give me a few minutes to report back.

I just purchased and installed FCP for classes and haven't had anything to do with it just yet.

Hey JayRock.

Iv had this problem before when I had a corrupt file structure on my Sony.

The individual files (000.MTS) will play on a Mac with VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/). But to import them into FCP you have to convert them into .MOVs.

A few programs will do that on a Mac. I used Wondershare Video Converter.

I am not able to import it either, but like I said. I'm green.

A quick search turned this up, so perhaps it might point you in the right direction.

It did play in VLC as pointed out above.

Anyone else. Im having to encode the files and send them out again. MAC once again puts a spoke in the wrench of peoples workflow. I can do anything with these files on my PC.

Jay-Rock 04-04-2011 12:55 PM

Premiere works with the MTS files by themself. WTF FCP? The file is not corrupt FCP just says it is because it doesnt have the directory structure of the original folder. I can move my MTS all over the place even to my laptop with no folder and NO ISSUES with Premiere CS5

I recommend in the future, you always download the entire file structure, of any file that gets shot on a card or hard drive camera.

Had this issue 3 days ago with a client trying to open a video file with out opening the whole file structure. I then explained how the files need to be opened.

He followed the directions i gave and there were the video files complete with the meta data.

I also back up whole entire cards with file structures into two separate places as i off load them. Clients are not wanting to hear about a hard drive crash.

I shot with and EX1, EX3 and this weekend i shot with and Canon Fx305 and a Canon Vixia SF10, if meta data is important to you and you want a solid workflow that will translate to what ever camera you are using, copy the whole card with its file structure as is.

This will save you issues like this in the future.

I know. It sucks. Its a Mac and Sony thing. They dont get along.

BiggleJones 04-04-2011 01:32 PM

I've had the same problem not copying the entire folder structure using a Sony cam in FCP. Sorry Jay.

Jay-Rock 04-04-2011 03:19 PM

So if I want to delete a clip after it is shot what do I do so they can still use the rest of the files? FUCKING LAME if you ask me. None of my PCs have this issue CS4 or 5

Mac for 10 years and have zero issues. I have edited over 1,000 porn vids, music vids and independent films. The worst issue i have ever had was my G5's cooling system blew up because i was compressing and exporting video for 15 days strait.

My Mac was out of warranty by 5 years and Apple still rebuilt the whole thing for free.

Mac might suck for you, but as a busy producer always working and depending on my machines, Mac has been perfect for me.

Before Mac, i was on a PC for 12 years with one minor issue after another. I don't miss PC's and i know I pay more for a Mac, but then again what is my time worth?

Im no Mac fan boy. Fuck Steve Jobs and his self righteous bullshit! I don't have an Iphone, Ipad or and Ipod. I got 1 desk top and 2 laptops and they work without issues.:2 cents:
