Quote:

Popular social networking site Facebook.com led all online publishers in Q1 2011 with 346 billion display ad impressions, representing 31.2 percent market share. Facebook?s market share has increased 15 percentage points from 16.2 percent in Q1 2010. Yahoo! Sites ranked second during the most recent quarter with 112 billion impressions (10.1 percent), followed by Microsoft Sites with 54 billion impressions (4.8 percent) and AOL, Inc. with 33 billion impressions (3.0 percent).
I wonder if they include Fanpage spam in their calculations :1orglaugh:winkwink::thumbsup

Read my previous post re why Facebook changed their feed layout. The ad sales numbers might have something to do with it?

facebook sucks

phasic 05-12-2011 02:06 PM

Where did these stats come from?

PornMD 05-12-2011 02:53 PM

Wow, Google's that low?

Jakez 05-12-2011 03:55 PM

Eh, that's a shit fuck ton of impressions, but really how useful are they, a bunch of kids (mostly) viewing hundreds of pages a day looking at their friends photos and crap.. I know there is a lot of power in that amount of traffic and people make money advertising on FB, but still a thought.

Robbie 05-12-2011 03:58 PM

ORly?
Then I'm going to IFrame Facebook on one of my sites....
Then ROBBIE will have 31% of all Ads!!!!

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I WILL RULE THE WORLD!!!!

woj 05-12-2011 04:58 PM

seems a bit misleading, in those stats I'm pretty sure "google" doesn't include all the adsense sites... so even though they are #5, in reality they probably control the most ad space of all the other networks...

Barry-xlovecam 05-12-2011 06:06 PM

You underestimate the mainstream market.

Ads for shoes, fashions, junk food and carryouts (Taco Bell, McDonalds, etc) branding advertising, mobile phone common carriers. These "kids" buy these things and influence their parents' purchase decisions.

These "kids" just buy things that you are not selling ...

Thanks for explaining, I guess it is pretty stupid to think they aren't finding a way to make money from all of them.

Summed up nicely.
:thumbsup

That's a significant volume for sure. I think Google will soon go for a war with FB.

Throw some CTRs into those stats to put it into perspective better.

aleck 05-12-2011 09:10 PM

31% of all impressions and 2% of all clicks. Something like that.

FB just burned Google with a mass email warning users about their (Google's) data mining. I think the war has already started.

I'm not sure who pisses me off the most, FB or G ???
Pot? Kettle? Black? who knows?
They're both riding on the backs of surfers and web site owners for financial gain.

Google owns this business model for everything else, but they can't quite seem to get social right. FB is the first real contender for ad rev Google has faced yet.

My thoughts, Google will be having higher CTR's and better relevance (for now)

candyflip 05-13-2011 04:56 AM

I have never clicked a single Facebook ad. I click Google Ads all the time.

slapass 05-13-2011 05:25 AM

So if google throws in youtube do you think that still sticks? Then adsense sites? they are on amazon and tons of high traffic sites.
