Our Mallick couldn't direct an award winning film if he stole money from all his customers and used it to sponsor it. Oops...

billywatson 05-22-2011 09:18 PM

The last movie I walked out of was Mallick's The Thin Red Line years ago.

Thought that movie was mediocre as well. Just kept dragging on and on without going anywhere. It also had the bad luck of going up against Saving Private Ryan that same year..

He thanked SKNANB for sending him his funds, he didn't say "epass is good people."

People kept telling me to watch that saying it was so great and it never got attention because of Saving Private Ryan. I watched about 20 minutes of it and was just too bored.

Malick doesn't make typical Hollywood paint by numbers movies, which imo Saving Private Ryan is - a big hoooo rahhhhhh for war that was cliché ridden and good only because the action was so viscerally filmed. "Thin Red Line" is the anti-thesis of that and much more emotionally charged without the push your easy emotional buttons approach Speilberg loves. Malick's movie subverts all those Hollywood war movie stereotypes which is why I think many people don't like it because it is such unfamiliar territory.

But that is just my opinion... wtf do I know?
