What's the best server for a tube site?
More accurately; what is the best server set up for serving up a lot of
bandwidth through video? I'm having an issue with my videos buffering too much. Thanks |

I don't understand why there isn't a streaming solution yet that will load up enough video to last for say 5-10 minutes and then stop loading anymore, in case you are just interested in watching that short span of video and then leave. And if you get close to the end of what has been loaded it will simply continue loading another 5-10 minutes. Most of these sites, even Netflix, load 20 minutes worth or the full video.
There's a LOT of bandwidth that could be saved there. |

Why add to it. :helpme |
I get asked this question alot. There is too many variables at play to tell you what server you need.
How many UV? How many pageviews per UV? How long are your videos? What bitrate? What is "alot of bandwidth"? If you are buffering too much and the load on your server isn't too high, then chances are your network is simply slow or bad routing. If your server load is high, then look towards your harddrives. They can only spin so quickly and might be causing disk i/o wait. |
dreamhost, webair. hostgator.

The videos are compressed and small. Playing them shouldn't be a problem. My videos have bit rate of 400 and 800. CPU average load is .6 per CPU. (doesn't seem too high but??????) |
