Wi-Fi hacker of neighbor's internet account gets 18 years prison!

Oh man was this dude nasty!

Hacked his neighbor's account and built a myspace page in the neighbors name and
posted CP on the account. Then mailed the same CP to neighbor's co-workers from
email accounts he set up as belonging to neighbor. Emailed death threats as the
neighbor to kill Vice President Biden.

The article actually asked the question if 18 years was an overkill sentence.

WHAT!!!!!!!??????

His neighbor could have gone to jail for CP and been on the sex offenders list
for the rest of his life. The death penalty would not be overkill in my opinion.
And oh, how interesting that he used child pornography to attack the neighbor because
the neighbor reported to the police that he kissed their 4 year old boy on the lips.
Somebody is blind to not see what's going on here.
18 years is nothing. I vote for life!

Quote:

Minnesota hacker Barry Ardolf was sentenced to an 18-year term in a federal prison this Tuesday. Ardolf had terrorized a neighboring family for two years through a carefully planned campaign involving a hijacked Wi-Fi network to harass, frame and embarrass the next-door neighbors in every facet of their lives.

Ardolf?s obsessive passive-aggression was apparently ignited in late 2008 when his neighbors, Matt and Bethany Kostolnik, filed a police report against him. The Kostolniks had a 4-year old son who wandered over to their next-door-neighbors property shortly after moving into the Minnesota suburb of Blaine. Ardolf, 46 and a father of two, had reportedly picked the boy up carried him back to the couple and then kissed the child on the lips. Ardolf was offended when the cops were called and vowed his revenge like every good villain.

The man, a Medtronic computer technician, downloaded a Wi-Fi hacking program to tear into his neighbors WEP encryption. Ardolf created a fake Myspace page as well as several fake emails for Matt Kostolnik. The hacker then posted child porn on the Myspace page and emailed the same child porn to co-workers at Kostolnik?s law office.

To top it all off, the Blaine hacker sent death threats to Vice President Joe Biden and other politicians from Kostolnik?s Yahoo account. This granted Kostolnik a visit from the secret service who had traced the emails back to his IP address. One of the emails told Biden, ?I swear to God I?m going to kill you!?

According to the Pioneer Press, he?ll also be restricted when working with computers by his parole officers. The man may have been a nightmare to live next to, but is the 18 years in prison a bit overkill?
The last sentence in the above quote is just pure insanity.

Tom_PM 07-13-2011 09:09 AM

Thats some serious mental illness living next door I'd say. Maybe 18 yrs is not enough, but it's a lot.

xNetworx 07-13-2011 09:09 AM

18 years sounds about right actually. I know a guy who got 18 years for killing a Marine in a DUI.

marketsmart 07-13-2011 09:09 AM

if it wasnt for the cp, he would have probably only recd probation...

.

acctman 07-13-2011 09:10 AM

another question why did he have CP to begin with? I say give him 30-40yrs in jail

seeandsee 07-13-2011 09:10 AM

i vote for 10 yrs in prison and big cash bill (to kick his poor ass) payed to that family!

96ukssob 07-13-2011 09:10 AM

wow, wtf is wrong with people?

what happened to the days where you just rang your neighbors door and punched them in the face??

newB 07-13-2011 09:12 AM

Just the kind of guy you want programming your pace-maker.

Don't forget that he made death threats to Biden!

Don't forget that he committed identity theft.

Don't forget that he committed electronic fraud.

Don't forget that he "burglarized" a computer network.

Don't forget that he's done it to another person before. Multiple counts.

Probation my ass.

He should not be allowed to use a computer or a cellphone ever again.

Or if he was a female.

Barry-xlovecam 07-13-2011 09:42 AM

Seems a fair sentence under the circumstances of the crime ...

JamesGw 07-13-2011 10:56 AM

I think 18 years is about right. I'd say even 25-30 would be justified.

JustJ 07-13-2011 11:30 AM

Holy shit! The hacker guy got what he deserved

DiF0r 07-13-2011 11:44 AM

LOL that's really fucked up

ottopottomouse 07-13-2011 12:39 PM

He's going to have fun in jail.

Robbie 07-13-2011 12:43 PM

This story is obviously false.

Both DamianJ and gideongallery have said over and over that if somebody were to hack a neighbors wifi and download and upload stolen porn that the innocent person who got hacked would end up being punished by the evil pornographers.

Therefore it is impossible that the actual hacker can get caught...ever. The police would have obviously arrested the innocent guy and prosecuted him while the hacker gets away.

You guys need to stop living in the real world and start listening ONLY to pro-piracy advocates. Then you would realize the impossibility of this kind of thing ever happening. :upsidedow

bronco67 07-13-2011 12:45 PM

I didn't know you could just send an email to Joe Biden. Cool.

he defines sociopath.

Imagine what it'll be like in the yard, when he tells everyone about his IP address theft charge. Grease up that butthole with some crisco.

This is completly different the guy hacked into his accounts and psoted that crap, he dident just pigy back his wi fi connection

You can use other peoples open wi fi connections and download to your own pc.

Serves the idiot right for doing shit like this

Sly 07-13-2011 01:15 PM

Kostolnik is very fortunate that his employer believed his story and helped out. A lot of people would not get that much help.

That's not what it says. It actually said that he hacked into the guys wifi AND then set up a myspace account and an email account in the guys name while using his ip address.

And my sarcastic post was simply to show that for all the pro-pirates screaming and crying about innocent people getting their wi-fi hacked and getting prosecuted for piracy...well surprise, surprise! It looks like the authorities can actually figure out that the wifi got hacked and innocent people don't have to get in trouble after all. :)

lazycash 07-13-2011 04:00 PM

Not only is the guy a sociopath, but an absolute idiot. He could have only had a 2 year sentence, but he turned down a plea deal. This from another article:

"Barry Ardolf appeared in federal court in St. Paul on charges of aggravated identity theft and making threats to the life of the President of the United States and his successors.

Ardolf was offered a plea deal of two years, but turned it down. Now, he is facing a minimum of seven years in prison if convicted."

Federal prosecutors have an extremely high conviction rate... if you're lucky enough to get a plea deal you should prob take it!

Imagine being prosecuted by the USA. Unlimited resources available to prosecute you. You're not going to win.

MrMaxwell 07-13-2011 04:08 PM

Fed shit is 95% conviction rate and you do AT LEAST 85% of the time no fucking questions

If the feds pick your case up kiss your balls the fuck good bye man

I hope they worked in possession of CP in there on this horrible person

adultchatpay 07-13-2011 04:42 PM

I think he deserves it

V_RocKs 07-14-2011 09:27 AM

Death threats to the Executive Office carry a large time penalty to keep regular people from flooding the system. As for the CP... CP is CP... So 10 years and $10,000 fine for each picture is standard.

Robbie won't actually see this post because he's such a weak douchebag he actually has to ignore people when he can't understand what they're saying. So it doesn't really surprise me that he's totally and completely missed the important difference. In this case, it's not all that subtle but enough so that cocaine brain can't figure it out.

The difference, and it's important, is that in this case through investigation STARTING with an ip address they were able to clear the guy. It's not the same thing as sending a letter that says "We got your ip address now fucking pay us.".

If Robbie had enough character to be able to discuss things with people and not have to run away confused, he'd probably have something to say. In the interest of presenting a balanced post I'll go ahead and answer for him: You're not in this business and you're a pirate that supports pirates and OMG if I ever see you I'm going to show you just how bad ass middle aged dirtbags are!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Frosty 07-14-2011 10:30 AM

Fucking psycho, at least he fully deserved his sentence.
