The MillerCoors brewing company will soon be forced to pull 39 brands of beers from every restaurant, bar and liquor store in the state of Minnesota.

It's all because the state says the company didn't renew its brand label registration far enough in advance before the state's government shutdown.

HardlinkSells 07-14-2011 07:22 AM

I don't live there, but I do visit frequently and that is my favorite beer.

HardlinkSells 07-14-2011 07:25 AM

They also have 38% of the market share in that state

CYF 07-14-2011 10:38 AM

I live in Minneapolis, MN.

About 300 bars and restaurants statewide couldn't renew their $20 license in July and now can't sell booze. 400 More in August if the state doesn't get its shit together.

Of course they're enforcing the rules even though they aren't selling permits.

Of course they're enforcing the rules even though they aren't selling permits. That makes money.

And why do they need a permit to sell beer anyway? Who decided that they need a permit?

If an officer came up and said "you're selling beer without permit - give me money", maybe he need to told "you're wearing shoes without a permit - give ME money".

My laws say that everyone that wears shoes, needs a permit, and needs to buy that permit from me.

Tom_PM 07-14-2011 10:49 AM

I'd tell them it's in the mail, it's not my fault some legislative branch decided to have a tantrum. Have a beer, officer?

beerptrol 07-14-2011 10:55 AM

messing with people's beer and smokes.....

"Minnesota has stopped selling tax stamps for cigarettes, which must be affixed to each pack before sale. The Star Tribune reports that cigarette sales will come to a halt by mid-August, unless more tax stamps are issued"

Thats all a liquor license is there? In SC for onsite ddrinking (bars, clubs, etc.) it's like $1200.

the $20 license, is a license to purchase wholesale booze from a distributor. Not a liquor license to sell alcohol. Sorry for not being clear about that.

Yup, but when the bar goes out of business because they can't buy booze, the state loses out on a lot more than the $20 license to purchase from a wholesaler.

alias 07-14-2011 04:14 PM

Pretty lame.

Oh ok, that sounds more reasonable. That sucks though, I never cared much for Miller, but have been on a High Life kick lately.

If there was ever an argument for Public Nullification and Civil Disobedience, this is it.

State can't do it's job but then tells me I can't do mine?

Jesse Ventura was right.

18teens 07-14-2011 05:03 PM

Holy shit, that's a fucked up state. I don't drink Miller but I'd be pissed off if it was my beer of choice and I lived in Minnesota.

CYF 07-14-2011 05:04 PM

It's not just beer, either. When the $20 wholesale buying license expires they can't get hard liquor, either.

Bars are going out of business over this shit.

And ultimately, who do you think to have to be held responsible for this shit?

Spunky 07-14-2011 05:30 PM

Is there any riots in the streets?

TangibleAsset 07-14-2011 05:35 PM

Could you post a sign on the front door of your bar or restaurant barring any officials who might try to regulate this from entering? Or fine them for entering? lol

Not familiar with any laws outside of AZ regarding liquor, but anyone in the Liquor Enforcement group can enter any premises that sells alcohol at any time during business hours and inspect any part of the property for any reason. Denying them is a one-way ticket to the doors being closed. I'd be surprised if it were any different there.

Also Miller got their renewal in on time, the state just didn't get around to processing it before the shutdown.

Fucking bullshit if you ask me.
