Strange snail mail I got today.

I think they must have the wrong person because it's well known I have no bank accounts, never had one and no money to put in a bank.

However I seem to have got a card from Claims Administrator in the US asking

"If you ever paid overdraft fees to Bank of America,
you may be eligible for a payment from a class action settlement.

They must have me confused with another Paul Markham who lives in the village.

I had a letter like that once, turned out to be the start of a scam, advance fee fraud.

Banking in the modern sense of the word can be traced to medieval and early Renaissance Italy, to the rich cities in the north like Florence, Venice and Genoa. The Bardi and Peruzzi families dominated banking in 14th century Florence, establishing branches in many other parts of Europe.[3] Perhaps the most famous Italian bank was the Medici bank, set up by Giovanni Medici in 1397.[4] The earliest known state deposit bank, Banco di San Giorgio (Bank of St. George), was founded in 1407 at Genoa, Italy.[5]
