Hot Rod Heaven and I've got pics!
 

Recently I had the opportunity to check out the first stop in Hot Rod magazine's Hot Rod Power Tour held at the Port of Canaveral. It's just across the water from the Shuttle launch pad and was the perfect location to check out some amazing Hot Rods.

Over 4,000 cars were in attendance and they parked them just off the beach at Jetty Park. Its ok to walk between the rows of parked cars to look at them but I had much more fun standing on the side of the road taking pictures as they came in and headed to the registration site before going to the show. This way I get an unobstructed view and I get to hear them drive by doing what they were built to do.

It was truly an amazing selection of cars and I saw everything from a 1969 Yenko Nova/SC 427 to a jaw dropping GT40 that really rumbled as it went by. Here's a few pictures I took from the side of the road on a day I felt like I was in Hot Rod heaven :)

I love the old sport cars - Mustangs, Vettes, Camaros, and a handful of others...

We did the Hot Rod Power Tour in '99 in my 1996 Impala SS and had a blast. There were so many bad ass cars cruising around. The best parts were the high speed runs in AZ & NM or getting ahead of everyone and shooting pics from bridge overpasses. Got to meet all the guys from Hot Rod Magazine and everyone was willing to help if your car brokedown especially for us long haulers.

One of my all time favorite cars, not sure though it fits in the Hot Rod category:winkwink:

Yes, it was at the port.

Cars came in for registration next to Rustys and then went to Jetty Park to park for display.
There was a huge overflow so many of the cars ended up parking all around the restaurant section of the port.
The port is basically one big loop so they were cruis'n all day long.

Locally this weekend here is the Syracuse Nationals as they call the event. Lots of cars and a few stars show up at the state fairgrounds. They expect about 7000 cars this year.

Also taking place is Brewfest! haha, they are unrelated of course just good timing for all the hot rodders I think.

I used to have the exact Pontiac GTO, except it was white with a black vinyl top. My mom bought it for me in 1976 for $100 from a friend of hers. DAMN I wish I would have kept that car.
