Dear CCBILL: Your expiring passwords suck!

I guess you guys decided to beef up security by expiring our passwords after so many weeks or months...

So now Stats Remote gets my IP banned as it tries to login to the old password throughout the night.

So I try to login via a browser, my IP is banned.

I call support and they unban it, but it isn't unbanned... I cannot change my password. My IP is banned. Thanks for nothing.

ExtremeBank_Adam 08-10-2011 02:21 PM

I hate their expired password system... They should change it to a "Your password will be expiring after 5 more logins....", then 4, 3, etc. to let you know beforehand. Something to let us know before it expires.

J. Falcon 08-10-2011 02:29 PM

I hate the expiring password too. I always forget when the fuck it's supposed to expire.

Hello V Rocks,

We have just contacted you via icq to address this issue. You can also contact me directly as well and I would be happy to look into this for you.

nickutis 08-10-2011 02:37 PM

I hate expiring ccbill password too!

Can this security option be optional?

tabasco 08-10-2011 02:44 PM

Weird I don't remember ever having to change my password and have been an aff for 5 plus years. How often does it expire?

Every 3 months or so.

V_RocKs 08-10-2011 02:47 PM

Called again... unlocked again... still ain't unlocked...

Perhaps in the admin a popup that says:

Your password will expire in 2 weeks. Would you like to save yourself a lot of headache and update it now?

They have been doing this for 13 years that I know of.

2MuchMark 08-10-2011 02:49 PM

Lol!

If CCBill didn't have this, people would be complaining that their security is too weak. Give me a break. CCBill's password expiry system is EXCELLENT.

dyna mo 08-10-2011 02:50 PM

what i don't understand is why the fuck passwords are asterisked out? i mean it's not like we're all at the public library with someone looking over our shoulder.

CyberHustler 08-10-2011 02:51 PM

CCBill is like... a fucking relic.

tabasco 08-10-2011 02:51 PM

I sure as fuck don't have to change mine every 3 months... strange.

nottslad 08-10-2011 02:52 PM

Same here, every few months for the last 2 or 3 years.

Stats remote tries to log me in, gets my ip blocked, password retrieval doesnt work and it takes sometimes 10 emails to support to get things fixed since you rarely get to talk to the same person twice and half the time they dont understand what I'm asking.

Is it really necessary to make it that you have to change your password every few months, even my bank doesnt require that.

Get it sorted please.

Same here, same pass which i used to register before 6 years.

BV 08-10-2011 03:09 PM

maybe just client accounts require it and not affiliate accts

Yup. My aff acct has never required it but client accts do.

19 posts in this thread and so far, you are the only person supporting CCBill's system.

Your reasoning is B.S. I've used online banking with multiple banks for 13+ years and have never had to change my passwords nor have I ever had a security issue.

Add my vote against the CCBill password system too. Never have liked being forced to change my passwords, especially as often as CCBill requires. :2 cents:

BVF 08-10-2011 04:35 PM

Yes, I don't like having to change my password over and over again...Mainly I just change a number in the sequence from 0 to 9 and then I change a second number...You gotta keep logging in to remember what the current password is.

Who says we aren't? I'm at Starbucks right now and some fat nosy fuck is looking over my shoulder. One sec please...

YES IT'S PORN YOU FUCKING LOSER!!!! Here's my card....

Sorry, I'm back. The reason CCBill makes their passwords expire after three months is because that's the length of time it takes to train a new "customer support" rep before they quit and CCBill has to hire a new one.

(CCBill is a fine company.)

AmeliaG 08-10-2011 04:50 PM

I find it a frustrating headache as well. As said above, one of the difficulties is that stats aggregators will get your IP locked and the support folks are often really not as good as they should be in addressing what must be common password issues. My rep is good, but I shouldn't have to get him involved to get my darn password.

there could be an radio box option to display pass or not eh, i think i've seen it somewhere.

Nurgle 08-10-2011 05:35 PM

its such a pain that you need to reset it so often

Nasty 08-10-2011 06:26 PM

I fucking hate this password expire bullshit, 4 accounts and have 2 change them on stats remote and roboform

Should have an option to opt of out this stupid shit or set it to once a year

Robbie 08-10-2011 06:40 PM

Put me in for a "HATE IT" vote on the expiring CC Bill password too.

I generate a long ass strong password. Then I put it in Stats Remote to check the stats and I also keep 3 copies of all the hundreds of programs username/passwords that I promote.

It sucks to have to keep changing it all the time. :(

But of course...it kinda fits the CC Bill affiliate admin which is just terrible as well. I don't think they will ever fix that thing.

Maybe CC Bill could buy a big ass NATS license and take it from there? lol

raymor 08-10-2011 06:41 PM

They now have an API that Stats Remote and other automated tools can use. I assume the API is key based rather than password based.

georgeyw 08-10-2011 06:44 PM

I have never had to change the password until just the other day.

V_RocKs 08-10-2011 07:53 PM

Happy thread...

lowly affiliate accounts passwords don't expire, just important webmaster accounts.

Doug E 08-10-2011 09:49 PM

I don't like it either. Every time it happens I message live support and politely complain. It probably sounds pretty petty to people that don't have to go through it but it is a bit of a nuisance, especially when statsremote was getting IPs blocked.

The Porn Nerd 08-10-2011 10:30 PM

Here's a tip: rotate your passwords. I have like three i can remember so when CCBill expires one I use the other, then the other, then back to the first.

Great security BTW. LOL

I've had to change mine twice this year (since switching to the new admin), and I'm just a lowly affiliate. Before that, I used the same password since 1999 without any problems.

It doesn't really bother me, though.
