NFL = Nice Fag League

onedree 08-21-2011 05:19 AM

It appears the referees are being a lot more stricter ...
The wild days of Jack Lambert and Dick Butkus's style of play are distant memories ...

Harmon 08-21-2011 05:48 AM

This is what happened

L-Pink 08-21-2011 06:58 AM

Jack Tatum or Ronnie Lott would have considered that an average hit.

That was a soft touch for guys like them, Lambert would have hurt him, Lott probably would have given him a concussion, Tatum might have ended his career, and Butkis might have eaten him.

onedree 08-21-2011 08:42 AM

Dick Butkus

dynastoned 08-21-2011 08:50 AM

i watched it on ESPN and thats about as clean of a hit as you're going to get from a guy trying to hit that crossing route. when i saw three flags get thrown simultaneously i was fucking amazed. roger goodell has ruined the game...

V_RocKs 08-21-2011 04:23 PM

You would last about 1 tackle in the league... so shut the fuck up.

Your right because I played offensive line in that league and I never got tackled.

:pimp

i think the issue of concussions, & the health problems of the alumni are forcing the NFL to change its ways. Just IMO.

Captain Kawaii 08-21-2011 05:10 PM

I think you are right, Joshgirls... I have been reading up on that. Healthcare costs for the walking wounded are skyrocketing...I guess everyone has a right to remember their own name after 50 as well or have workable kneecaps.

No "guard option" in your teams playbook?

.

Ron Bennett 08-21-2011 05:24 PM

What's happened is the players have become too valuable to let get beaten up. Pro sports is mostly about celebrities and showmanship not the game itself - that's secondary.

One sees the same thing in NHL with all the extra pads and eye protection along with stricter refs and heavier penalties for conduct that used to be just a few mins in the box years ago.

Oh yeah, it's in the book!

It's in every book.

Now when's the last time anyone called it??? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I ran it in practice one time.

That was still one time more than any other guy on the team.

BTW: I was just bullshiting about playing in the NFL. I played college and had an
offer for the USFL back then. The money was so small that I took a programming
job instead. I bullshitted because V_rocks is a dick and that's all he deserved.

kane 08-21-2011 05:41 PM

I could see if he hit him in the head, but it looks like it was a shoulder to shoulder hit and there was no head contact. Pretty weak call.

baddog 08-21-2011 05:43 PM

They need to equip them with electro-magnets if they want them to be able to prevent hits like that.

That might be very fun to watch. Seeing guys get close to each other then bounce away.

D Ghost 08-21-2011 10:02 PM

I see harder hits in baseball all-season, no fines...

And if those days were brought back and your favorite team's QB was gone for the year because of such a hit you'd be the first one bitching about hard hits.

Ever hear about the guys from the "old days"? They have all kinds of health issues and support these new rules.

Yes and Butkus career last just 9 seasons and 119 games. Which would be 7 1/2 seasons today. For comparison Mike Singletary the Bears MLB from the 80's played in 179 games. And it would have been 190 if not for strikes in 1982 and 1987. Brian Urlacher has played in 154 games a MLB for the Bears and he missed all but 1 game in 2009.
