OpenX - I can't believe I waited this fucking long!
Then again... setting this shit up has been a long fucking process...
If anyone is thinking of setting it up themselves... reports wise you should separate everything, sponsors, campaign types, banners, etc... But in doing so you end up with a shitload of work because it is a lot easier to have 1 advertiser and then put every 300x250 banner with solo models, for instance, and just have to link 1 campaign to 1 zone... Anyway... looking at the stats thus far has been eye opening... Ads I ran for years are now getting replaced by ones that I can see get more clicks and conversions... On a side note... About 80% of the affiliate companies nominated for the GFY awards are new to me! So I have been trolling the voting threads picking up sponsors left and right... Troll them yourself, get your linking code to the top 5 to 10 and post them here... I am taking the night off... and tomorrow I will be reloading this thread and signing up to all of these sponsors before entering them into openX. |

If you do not know how to do it yourself, or your host won't or doesn't know how, you should pay somebody to optimize your server for you if you're serving more than a million impressions a day.
Reflected installed it for us -- as they do everything -- and had all kind of tricks to make it run smoothly and effortlessly. Has never let us down. The install on Reflected runs much better than the install I did myself when I first started playing around with it a couple of years ago. You're right about treating everything separately. I learned that through trial and error myself. |
Sweet... So with OpenX, can you install it on a central server/site and have it deliver ads on all your other sites?
|
With OpenX can you geo target your ads and all that?

I have OpenX installed and running but I don't have my ads exactly the way I want them. The set up is taking up huge chunks of time plus making my own custom promo materials.
|
This is what helped me when I first started using openx like 5 years ago...

just remember to secure your admin area (add htacess with another password level) otherwise sooner or later you will get security fucked.

I installed OpenX on a domain two days ago, and plan to learn it soon. But, was a bit confusing :) Maybe I did not look good enough into it :)
|
you guys better secure that thing as tons of people get fucked with their openx ;))
|
Congrats .
|
Now you have a decurity hole the size on space on your server. Get smart spots. Its much much more secure.
|
Openx has a learning curve to it, but once you use it daily its great!

I think the only way to regain my love is putting links to my sites in all your blogs... |
Find me at linkspun... nice template. Might want to use flowplayer since the free version allows you to link the video to the sponsor.

You guys should give Smart Spots from Smartscripts guys a try.
It's like "Openx", you can also setup campaigns, advertisers, GEO, etc but without all the installation, setup and performance troubles. Maybe it doesn't have all the Openx features, but i have yet to miss one both as media buyer/seller. |
I have installed OpenX a dozen times and every time I have uninstalled an hour later with slightly less hair...
