I love Link Spun but...

I love Link Spun and think it's a great website for finding new trades but as I was searching for trades today I realized that Link Spun is filled with a shit ton of crap sites to trade with now. A majority of it is crappy tube sites that look like they were thrown together in 5 minutes, a bunch of blogs with only 1 or 2 posts, tons and tons of free hosted blogs that look horrible, etc. It just sucks having to wade through the crap to get to the good stuff.

CodeR70 08-31-2011 12:29 PM

I know what you mean man. I was hoping for a better filter mechanism so bad sites could be filtered out a little (PR helps a little though). More meta and site info would be welcome as well, Alexa info maybe, domain age, site rating.

True! Many people have their "good" sites hidden, and only want to give linkbacks from the above mentioned tubes and blogs.

alias 08-31-2011 12:30 PM

It doesn't help instill confidence that the owner is MIA and the site is essentially a ghost ship.

I have problems with it too but it's more about traffic quality and SEO than the designs of the sites. Webmasters care more about that than the surfers do. They care about the content and how easy it is to find and access. That's about it. It's a porn site not a work of art! ;)

porno jew 08-31-2011 12:34 PM

some of my best selling sites looked like total garbage.

magicmike 08-31-2011 12:36 PM

True, but I can't assume every website on Link Spun that looks like shit will be good to trade with.

Klen 08-31-2011 12:38 PM

And it took you so long to realize that lol. Also lately what is irritating,is pirates starting using linkspun.

No, I have realized it for awhile but I was just searching for trades and was getting quite frustrated with it today. I remember first using Link Spun last summer when there wasn't as many webmasters using it and it seemed like the trade quality was much better...not to mention their website seemed a hell of a lot faster.

AzteK 08-31-2011 12:41 PM

Is the owner even around anymore?

porno jew 08-31-2011 12:41 PM

wish they had a language filter. fucking germans taking over the place as well.

Where is jdoughs???

Sly 08-31-2011 12:51 PM

Out of curiosity, what kind of filters would you guys like to see to help identify "quality" sites? PR is not a very good gauge. Possibly a user rating system where users can be ranked by others? I see lots of flaws with that idea, but possibly an idea for the future... that is, if anyone picks the site up again.

redwhiteandblue 08-31-2011 01:40 PM

You need other tools to check out the sites you want to trade with, it's no good just relying on PR. I've seen some really nice looking sites on there that looked like they were worth getting a link from until I checked out their backlink profile.

This would be helpful:
Tell us which links MAKE SALES. :D

For me personally, I would rather have the sites/pages rated, not the user. I have seen some users that have good and bad sites. Rating a user would make not much sense in that way. Also, in that case a user, including myself, is getting reasonable feedback and puts in more work on the bad sites (I hope :D )

geirlur 08-31-2011 02:39 PM

An option to filter out freehosted sites and subdomains would be a good start.
A moderator should move those foreign sites to the foreign category..

I'm not sure you mean link spun, it is for link trading sounds like you are thinking of an ad market like juicy ads.

19teenporn 08-31-2011 03:40 PM

You are right.. i guess it's time to stop drinking.. :1orglaugh

tabasco 08-31-2011 03:59 PM

I look at a combo of Alexa Rank, general written quality, outlink quantity, whether it is updated still and PR when choosing a link partner.

You're looking at the wrong things -except for maybe the "updated still" part. I have PR4 and higher Alexa ranked sites (although I haven't checked either of those services in almost a year...) that can only dream of making as money as my focused PR1 and Alexa 1,000,000+ ranked sites.

Alexa and PR might be handy if you want to sell links and advertising. I dunno - I don't do that. On LinkSpun, PR and Alexa are completely fucking irrelevant.

Give me everything for free and without me having to work!

Alexa is a rough guide but gives me a picture combined with the other things I mentioned. You could have a site that is PR4 with Alexa of 18,000,000. I see these all the time when looking for links. That says it gets fuck all traffic - probably less than fifty visitors a day. That says to me Google doesn't like their shitty page regardless of their high PR. It also tells me it's probably not making money and will be abandoned.

Of course all that is in general. Micro niches and mainstream promotions etc may make money off low traffic but in most of the niches I promote they won't.

PromoterX 08-31-2011 09:43 PM

See sig... I am always looking for long term trades, and I trade root domains mostly.
