Facebook BEAT Google in Traffic!

DAMN!
On August 28th according to Alexa.com Facebook topped Google in Traffic as the number one site in the world. Does this mean anything?

you see the dip? That was Facebook beating Google out for that day.

Mr Pheer 09-04-2011 02:38 AM

I believe that is not the first time.

glamourmodels 09-04-2011 02:38 AM

I never heard of FB beating Google before? I thought Google was so far ahead it would take a miracle for that to happen... guess not...

grumpy 09-04-2011 03:30 AM

impossible to beat google, its just whats counted.

Paul Markham 09-04-2011 04:02 AM

Who cares?

Like I have always said it's not about traffic, it's about $$$$

When FB makes more money than Google, then it's a bigger deal.

moeloubani 09-04-2011 04:17 AM

that is google.com

not google.ca

or google.whatever

i think total google still wins

CurrentlySober 09-04-2011 04:44 AM

I cunting HATE FB with a vengeance, and REFUSE to get an account there. FUCK EM!

Alexa is not an accurate sample, most people using a Mac, Linux, iPad, iPhone, Android Phone, Android Pad, Generic Smartphone, Internet Kiosks do not have the Alexa toolbar installed. The demographics of the people who install the Alexa toolbar are skewed also, favoring people who don't care about having crap on their browser or who really want Alexa there because they are silly enough to think Alexa rank is an accurate measure.

Obviously Facebook is approaching par with Google because Zuckerberg is creating his own walled platform that many people now see as the extent of the Internet, however to say that just because more people with the Alexa toolbar viewed Facebook over Google on one day is hardly news or earth shattering.

Facebook is the biggest single application on the net, of course lots of people use it. We know that without Alexa issuing a press release.

Facebook search will be super sweet ! And to open their ads for publishers to serve on their sites, that will be rocking

I'm not dreaming. I'm making more money from Facebook traffic than Google. :1orglaugh

fact. :upsidedow

AND, I find myself discovering better niche sites in my mainstream field through FB... because Google is filled with so much shit, too hard to surf the type of sites I am looking for. But on FB, people recommend the best ones to me already and I don't have the time or NEED to surf Google for answers as much.

Sorry but you don't understand marketing or advertising in the slightest.

FB = people looking to socialise. Non targeted ads.

Google = People looking for a specific product. Targeted ads.

Now what do you think is the most effective for ads and gets the best return?

Sorry Paul, you're missing the point entirely. I have mainstream Facebook pages for industry websites with thousands of followers, they make me money every month by carrying on the conversation with our customers, website visitors and people interested in the subject.

Facebook ads have a great return if used properly, in almost any industry that you can think of.

Of course Alexa is not 100% Accurate, But even if it doesn't calculate all the data from those methods you've just mention for Google then it's not doing it for Facebook either. Imagine how many of these smart phones have FB apps...

Basically it's still somewhat surprising because Facebook shouldn't be beating Google in any graph what-so-ever. Everybody doesn't have a fb page, but damn near everybody uses Google.

calvinawe 09-08-2011 04:54 AM

By reach, google still wins
