My Next Toy!!!

OK, so it just looks like a pinball at first glance yeah? Well, it is, and it isn't...
The 'playfield' is a 46 inch LCD screen that emulates the table. Likewise the DMD (Dot Matrix Display) and the back glass are two separate screens as well...

Its all run off a PC thats hidden inside... But whats cool, is you can select tables... See the vid below to see in in action... With the back panel changing and the 'tables' swopping out...

It will also have force feedback built into it, so it moves and 'feels' right...

Ordered the main screen today from Amazon... & I'm Gonna start my build in the next month or two... What d'ya think???

DamianJ 09-06-2011 02:00 PM

If I am playing pinball, I want a real fucking pinball. Fuck that computer stuff. Never feels right.

CurrentlySober 09-06-2011 02:01 PM

WOOT WOOT!

You gotta admit it looks fucking real dont it?

JamesGw 09-06-2011 02:03 PM

That is kinda cool, but I'd prefer real pinball.

Jeremy Clarkson suggests otherwise.

I would have 100% agreed with you, had I not played one myself... Just the basic screen and body... OK, a bit fake. But there are so many extra bells and whistles you can add in, to create the 'nudge' effect, and the solenoid in the flipper, and the thing that hits the side when you get a free game, and a rumble pack etc...

It feels 'right'...

But like I said, without going 'hands on' I can understand you thinking that... But I put my money where my mouth is today and bought the main component.. The Sharp aquos lc-46d65e

:) :) :)

Brainiac 09-06-2011 02:13 PM

i cant play that shit

I would have agreed, but when you consider that a 'real pinball' is just ONE table, and can go 'wrong' easy and need fixing... But this one has ALL the tables, and the only 'wrong' would be the computer...

Well, I am a convert :)

Practice then... Practice... :thumbsup

Kenny B! 09-06-2011 02:19 PM

They have a lot of new ways to play old video games, I prefer the real thing but to each their own.

Either way it is really cool, let me know how the build goes I may try one myself sometime.

Wilbo 09-06-2011 02:19 PM

How much for one with all the bells and whistles?

Well, you dont buy a finished machine... You buy the main 3 screens, an old cabinet, build a PC to go in it, and add as many of the extras as you like... Its up to you :)

The software that runs the tables and the 3 screens has the ability to control all sorts of extras... It up to you what 'extras' you want...

Its a real project. Like I say, I have committed to 'attempting' to build it, by ordering the 1st part, the large screen... But as for how long until its finished, or how much its gonna cost overall... Dunno...

But... Everyone needs a hobby eh? :thumbsup

DudeRick 09-06-2011 02:27 PM

You can't afford that!

Well, I did the math, and thought that instead of buying vodka and drinking myself to an early grave, I could instead spend my vodka money on this instead...

Not only will it give me something to do... It will help keep me busy, and off the drink...

The devil finds work for idle hands etc... :thumbsup

Personally, I dont see why you didnt buy a pinball machine, but, with electronics as they are with online games etc, fair play & good one for giving up the drink to play something fun & cool to show your freinds & enjoy with them :thumbsup Congrats.

Visually the only thing that seems to look really wrong with the virtual one is the wire frames the ball is supposed to run in.

BIGTYMER 09-07-2011 04:45 AM

That is fucking awesome! Ill look into it myself. I might want to build one.

Godsmack 09-07-2011 04:46 AM

I have one in my office :)

I played a playboy pin, at an event I went to in August...

Cool...

But those of you who say 'get a real pin' - I think you miss the point.

Would you buy an XBox and just have ONE game? And then when you want to play a different game, you have to sell the xbox and game that you have (You cant keep it) and go out and buy another XBox and the new game you want?

Of course not, and thats my point. Instead of having one REAL table, I would be much happier with 50+ Different tables... All built into one lightweight box :)

CurrentlySober 09-07-2011 01:44 PM

You can buy them ready made, or as kits HERE if you are in the states :)

MediaGuy 09-07-2011 01:49 PM

That looks way cool.

Does it have a Xenon emulator?

:D

Scott McD 09-07-2011 01:49 PM

Pretty cool !!

I'd love either to be honest. A real machine, or that would do fine. Always wanted one!

I went to the www.UKPinballParty.com in August, and tried one 'Hands On'... It was fucking awesome :)

Its one of those things that you dont *think* is gonna work right, or *feel* right, but believe you me, after a few mins of play, and being able to actually nudge the table like a real machine and stuff, I forgot it wasnt real... Its THAT GOOD... :thumbsup

my favorite pinball of all pinballs i have ever tried:

Yes. If you go HERE you can see all the backglass graphics for all the pins that it emulates. But more and more get added all the time. This is just kinda a list of what it can do now.

Lykos 09-07-2011 02:07 PM

Interesting toy to have:)

topwebmodels_chris 09-07-2011 02:38 PM

There are worse things I could do...

than go with a boy or two
Even though the neighborhood thinks
I'm trashy and no good I suppose it could be true,
but there are worse things I could do I could flirt
with all the guys, smile at them and bat my eyes.
Press against them when we dance,
make them think they stand a chance
and then refuse to see it through,
that's the thing I'd never do. I can stay home every night
Wait around for Mr. Right, take cold showers everyday,
and throw my life away, on a dream that won't come true
I could hurt someone like me, out of spite or jealousy,
I don't steal and I don't lie, but I can feel and I cry
In fact I'll bet you never knew, but to cry in front of you,
that's the worse thing I could do.

MrBottomTooth 09-07-2011 05:30 PM

I'd be worried about the viewing angle on the LCD. Would be terrible if the screen was all washed out when you were trying to play it.

alias 09-07-2011 05:39 PM

Nice to be able to switch it up, I see the point. Should be nice and vibrant since it is all LCD.

Again, you need to see it IRL to fully appreciate it...

The image of the table isn't FLAT like on a normal TV or computer monitor directly infront of you...

It DESIGNED (The Graphics) To be viewed from the correct angle... Standing infront of it... Thats the beauty of it. The graphics that represent the top end of the table, and designed to be viewed from that angle...

This means it looks COMPLETELY CORRECT. It gives an EXTREMELY REALISTIC PERCEPTION OF DEPTH... (An optical illusion if like)

To put it another way, imagine it was a 'Real Table' in an arcade, and you stood on the left or right of the table watching someone play it...

Well, the 'far end' would look blurry and distorted - Not right at all. But stand infront of the thing, and play it... It looks EXACTLY like a real table!

See the vid I posted in post 3...
