Does anyone know of any good filtering software and spyware software?

I don't give a shit if it filters out non porn or medical shit.

I also need some spyware software to let me know where someone is spending their time.

Any suggestions?

Kids who want to see the naughty stuff will figure out a way around it. The other stuff wont' be filtered out - Videos like Ronald McDonald pissing in public (which I caught my kid watching once) won't be filtered out.

It's funny how society is so concerned about kids seeing naughty pictures while the real danger is an adult contacting them, pretending to be a child, and getting them to meet, etc etc.

Invest your time in having chat with your kid about the dangers of the Internet instead.

Actually, it is possible to set it up where you can keylog and entire wifi network. My gf's ex hubby is an IT guy and he had it set up on their home wifi network.

I'm actually more worried about them pirating music and movies from my isp, but I'm trying to cover all my bases. I agree as far as the "naughty" stuff goes. Shit, I was watching Tosh.0 one night and some dude was blowing a huge fucking dildo, censored of course, while some chick walked in on the guy. This was basic fucking cable.

I do however want something to block as much as possible.

I really want the spyware so I can track what sites are being visited.

As to the OP, put the PC in the living room and make the kid use it in front of you. Problem = solved.

Used that on my kids once they reached 13... Only checked it when something actually happened... Like say my GF's ex-husband's new girlfriend is corrupting the kids... Then denies it to her man flat out. Says if she is lying he SHOULD leave her... So I download the proof... He doesn't leave her, but it did set a nice precedent for the kids on her lying abilities... Now they know not to use her as a source...

From such situations the kids began to monitor themselves knowing that they were being watched... or could be watched... and that I could just replay the tape a year later and make someone eat crow... oh, and lying? that's another offense in and of itself... so they didn't fuck around...

Did catch my daughters boyfriend looking at big tits and chunky teens.... My daughter is the state of Kansas and as skinny as a rail in both regards... She ended up canning his ass since he'd never be happy with her... nice!

As far as spying goes. I'm not trying to catch anyone doing anything. They will be aware that there web usage is be monitored. It's meant to be used as a deterrent.

Fairly straightforward. You can use the browser site block (or "unsafe") if you want.

Don't see why it has to be so elaborate.

I'm not worried about my kids seeing people having sex, it's the sick violence (that YouTube doesn't delete) like insurgents blown to pieces sitll crawling around that bugs me...

That said, I found out my younger daughter (she was 8 at the time) discovered rotten.com and was fascinated by dismemberment and anatomical stuff... I'm sure she's going to be a surgeon when she grows up :P

I don't want letters from some attorney telling me I owe them x amount of dollars. If you want to take that chance by "trusting" your kid, then by all means, do that.

But I happen to be dealing with someone that CANNOT be trusted.

There's a free version that does everything you need, and you can run it in vmware/virtualpc/etc. Alternatively, a low end pc with two ethernet ports + a usb stick would work just fine.

In fact, I did stop my kid from watching Glee. The first time we watched it together and in the first five minutes there was a cheerleader in her uniform on a bed drinking wine coolers with her boyfriend, making out. My daughter is a cheerleader, she's 11, and I did not think it was appropriate for an 11 to be watching a cheerleader getting drunk and fooling around with her boyfriend.

After much pleading on her part, we re-visited the issue, and now we watch it together.

This is a concern too really. Have a chat with them about illegal downloading the consequences and make sure it's established that it's not acceptable. My kid uses my iTunes account. (Come to think of it, I noticed the other day she bought a Britney Spears song I'll need to check out to make sure it's okay for her to listen to.)

I've always found it rather amusing that if a kid sees porn / sex it's horrible, but we think nothing of letting watch videos where thousands die and we allow them play video games where they kill people. Which is worse? Are we really sending a message saying "Sex is bad, but it's okay to slaughter people by the thousands?"
