Free members, how much value do they have?

I have a site that gets a couple hundred free joins a day, I collect basic info: ip, email, name, age, location. I don't mail them, I should but mailing is one thing I've never learned about and from what little I know, I know I need to know a lot more to do it correctly. So other than up sells I am making on the site and trying out some api's to send the info to, I am not maximizing what I could be making off of what I think is pretty valuable data.

This hasn't been something I've spent a lot of time and been too busy with other projects however if I could increase the revenue this site makes I would give it more attention and would increase the traffic to it.

What is this data worth if I was to sell it and/or the site at some point? How much of a value would you place on 1 free member, .02, .05, .25, .50. $1.00 etc ???

Any suggestions on an easy way to monetize it other than plugging in some API's?

There are too many variances. You will never get an accurate answer until you go trial and error on a decent sized portion. The only thing that might have a solid value is how much you could sell the free members for. But even then you have to establish a base productivity.

Probably worth more to you than someone else, so think of an easy way to filter/funnel them into different categories and expose them to what they want. Some e-mail campaigns can be very profitable, but I would try to avoid them and get the exposure in a different site related way.

I always go for the smaller demo, some think it's wasteful. But to me it's an easy way to identify quickly who will spend their money.

Btw, you still in New Orleans?

If you're storing their chosen passwords in plaintext then those users are suddenly a lot more valuable in certain circles. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I suppose hackers would want passwords as most idiots use the same password for everything (porn site, bank account, paypal, etc..) . But no I don't store the password in plain text and wouldn't want to give that info away to others even if I did. I'm not that evil :)

Make the site a pay site. There is nothing else that will even come close to capitalizing on that traffic. Problem is I suppose is what is the site and what are u going to offer?

it all depends a bit on why they became a free member to start with, what site/page etc

Adultfriendfinder pays 1 dollar and a percentage of the sales for every customer. So they are very valuable.

What's this? A dollar and a percentage from every free user? Through an API or what? I'm not seeing it here on my AFF programs page.

I've been plugging AFF for quite a while and never heard of this. I only get $0.30 per free male member and $1.50 per female, plus a nice percentage. Of course that's for direct site signups though, not sending them a feed or some such.
