Coffee grinder - blade or burr

I have two blade grinders I use. Will a burr grinder make much difference?

Deej 09-27-2011 09:49 PM

doubt it. my blade grinder makes it super fine if you want. how do you make your coffee? french press? kuerig?

Brujah 09-27-2011 11:00 PM

I have a few presses and also a keurig with a solofill cup. Was considering the toddy cold brew system.

once you go bur you never go back.

Your testicles will shrink just a little bit but the coffee out of the french press will be a little bit better with a burr because it will be more uniform but not perfectly. I think I spent like $60 for mine.

If you are a coffee aficionado and buy good beans, then you will probably appreciate the difference.

burr ftw - totally uniform.

I use this one

damn Damian, I don't think I want to spend that much on a burr grinder

Don't then. :)

I went through 2 cheap ones before I bought the Kitchen Aid one.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

Depends how much you use it really. I use mine 3 times a day, and it's now lasted me about 3 years. The other two cheap ones didn't last one year.

Brujah 09-28-2011 05:02 AM

$180 ... my birthday is coming up, you could buy it for me? lol

use the burr if you want to grind the coffee, use the blade if you want to chop the coffee. chopping the coffee heats the beans as they are chopped while a burr actually grinds the beans

I have the toddy. pretty awesome. also have the press and the single cup keurig... drink mostly ice coffee these days. make sure to cut the coffee from the toddy 4/1 before you drink it... I have the keurig in the model room. not bad stuff but can't compare with the toddy or the press. also get my coffee fresh roasted from a local place... they roast small batches everyday... makes a huge difference..

I have this one... on my third, in 10 years... and only because I keep trying to grinding Cinnamon sticks in with the coffee. I finally knocked that shit off and have no issues.http://www.amazon.com/Breville-BCG45...212034&sr=1-13

I might try the cold brew method with my press.

I agree with the once you go burr you never go back. Just don't buy a shitty one because they will drop grounds of various sizes still.

Deej 09-28-2011 09:44 AM

Shit, i might have to check this burr thing out... honestly never heard of its advantages.

I love my press!!! Ive been using this solocup keurig thing though while im in vegas.

I have had the cold brew method and if I remember right its actually a healthier method of coffee preparation. Something like it takes out a lot of the acids that arent good for you in coffee.

burr

and the good news is that the more coffee you drink the lessor the chance of prostate cancer.

TheDoc 09-28-2011 12:54 PM

I'm old school, put the coffee beans in your mouth, chew them up for about 5 minutes and swallow with water, the real mans way of doing shit!
