Started by day with a trip to the gym and being robbed on the street

Ah, what a good day so far.

So, for the first time in ages, I am actually in my own home for a Monday morning. Which meant I could do my normal routine of riding my bike to the gym in the morning and then working at the tea shop across the street for about an hour after the gym.

I was about halfway home on my bike when two guys come out of nowhere and lift my laptop bag out of my bike basket WHILE I AM MOVING. Okay, I am not moving fast..I had just crossed the street ..but still!

So, I get off and scream things my mother would not be proud of me saying as the two guys run down a side street. Luckily. there are two witnesses - one of which was a 68 year old ex-security guard- who clocked every detail about the guys while the other one called the police.

The police were there in about five minutes and ten minutes later they caught the guys, found my laptop down an alley and arrested them. I had to give statements and things. I even got my first ride in the back of a police car.

Thank goddess I got my laptop back and everything works fine.

I may just treat myself to a drink now though.

lucky they got caught. someone jacked my phone out of my hand a few months ago at a bar and took off. luckily my gf was able to track the location with her iPhone and had the police arrest them and got my phone back... even tho the cop DROPPED IT and cracked the front

_Richard_ 10-17-2011 02:50 PM

iSpyCams 10-17-2011 03:00 PM

I bet getting your laptop back was a nicer feeling than buying it in the first place.

CyberHustler 10-17-2011 03:00 PM

Yeah! I mean, I only just bought it too. The cops asked me how much it cost, I told them and they smiled since I guess it went over whatever amount they needed it to be to charge the guys more heavily.

Niktamer 10-17-2011 03:11 PM

The value of the item stolen determines whether they are charged with 'grand larceny' or 'petite larceny'. In CA, the threshold is $950.

It's been 2 decades since I've lived there, but yah, Alameda is NOT known for any type of crime.

i thought 'petite larceny' was when they stole items smaller than a wristwatch:winkwink:

Jakez 10-17-2011 03:32 PM

Maybe they thought there were some fresh fleshlights in your bag?

Yeah and with so much of the island being military, it is kind of a deterrent.

I did wear a Fleshjack shirt in the gym but I am hoping I didn't have the Fleshlight smell to me on the street :1orglaugh

and then? you try to shoot the robber in the back while he's running down the street? and maybe shoot some innocent bystanders as well while you are at it?

Not exactly sure how I gun wouldn't have stopped or solved anything to do with this situation.

Yeah, you of all people know how fucked off I was at the time. I am thrilled I was that lucky to get it back.

The cops were like 'do you want them to be charged?'. I controlled my smart ass turrets and didn't reply on how I would be totally happy to release two brazen daylight robbers back into the population.

Monique Niccole 10-17-2011 03:55 PM

I could see that sketchy shit happening in San Francisco, but it seems out of character for Alameda.

Glad everything ended well, Sarah. :)

You'd be surprised what a few warning shots can accomplish, dear.

Vendzilla 10-17-2011 03:58 PM

I'm not use to hearing good stories about when the police get involved

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 10-17-2011 04:03 PM

Warning shots...in the direction of two people fleeing with witnesses around? I mean, if I was being held up maybe but unless I ride my bike with my gun out, GTA style, I don't see it accomplishing much in this particular situation.

waltgator 10-17-2011 04:26 PM

A few bases my brother in law was stationed have been described to me as crime cesspools, so I don't know how much that matters.

Not totally inaccurate but the whole island thing tends to let people pretend we aren't Oakland.

I'm so happy things ended positively for you Sarah! The worm could have turned quickly the other way with desperate sketchy people like that.

Prime opportunity for a massive viral video missed. Next time keep a couple of Fleshlight sleeves in your bag. When confronted start flailing them about their heads wildly like some rubbery nunchucks. It will be on every news program around the world!

Maybe I missed a reply or thread, but what happened to MaxCash? How are you enjoying it stateside again, aside from the occasional muggings?

Warning shots are fired up into the air, not in the direction of people. Glad to hear that you weren't hurt and got your property back.
