So Smart Tube Pro would be a bad choice if you were looking to setup your first tube site?

Mechbunny is an unlimited domain license, and STP is per site as I understand it. That's why I went with Mechbunny and paid the extra, cause it takes at least a handful of sites to get anywhere these days, by the time you have 4 tubes Mechbunny is already cheaper, and there's no reason to stop at 4.
Plus I fucking hate smarty. edit: I see STP has a lower cost (~$1500) 20 site license pack. Still like Mechbunny better. |
We own both Mechbunny and STP, both are very good scripts, I don't know why you don't understand how STP works, it's a script so, as every script, you have to understand how it works, like Mechbunny one. Once you did, it's very easy to use, and Goodwill gives good support !
If you plan to create one single tube (or 10 maximum), go with STP If you plan to create a tubes network (50+) go with Mechbunny |
I prefer stp, I have mechbunny as well. In my experience goodwill offers better support and only stp has the features what I need. Trying to pay someone to code similar functions in mechbunny was like hitting your head against a brick wall.

I really don't understand some of you here..
Once host has setup the STP requirements, STP is setup and running in minutes. Biggest problem is getting hosts to setup FFMPEG most of the times, other than that the STP installer runs and sets up STP in minutes.. Yes, you need to follow the step by step instructions which most people unfortunately don't do and start asking questions about stuff they could have read in the setup instructions. STP is a highly customizable script that can be customized in every detail imaginable, but yes, you do need to know Smarty.. this is the case for other scripts like NATS. Smarty is not for anyone and that's the reason we included very nice default templates which is CSS and easy to edit. Adding content to STP after install is easy as well, you can start importing content right away, even from XML. People should take some time reading instructions before they go fiddling with scripts, unfortunately this happens a lot but we are always on the support forum to help out were we can. STP is by no means dead, it sells great and runs on many tubes. STP is not as complex after you take some time learning it, remember STP was build from the ground up as a PAY TUBE CMS and it was not really made to run MGP style tubes.. we might however do some tweaks later and strip stuff out for clients that don't need all the extra's.. If you don't know Smarty than STP is not for you.. go for something else or outsource your templating needs.. |

If you don't know Smarty you should not buy a script that based its template engine on it. STP is setup and running in 15 mins, and requires NO fiddling with any Smarty at all!, you can have a site with content in 30 mins without even touching any Smarty. |

We have Bepe that would have taken you by the hand and help anywhere he can to get you going.. The docs may be limited but they cover the WHOLE install/setup procedure.. |
Did a lot of smart-tube-pro-ing over last few years and just recently got two more licences - and I can 100% vouch that STP is superb, miles better than any "competing" tube script.
Yes, it is complex - but for fuck sakes, even wordpress is complex if you want to utilize it fully, ain't it? Also, kudos to godsmack for great support :) |
