Do not, ever, think about a bank account in Ukraine

I am currently living in Ukraine and working for one of the best US (or probably whole world's) company.

The company sends me wire transfers every month. For some reason, I can't get my wire this month. They say its the fucking law in this country but it never happened to me before.

I have a personal (not business) bank account and I can't accept wire transfers from corporate accounts from aboard. Previous payment had delay for 18 days and current payment didn't arrive as well.

The fucking service here amazes me. They admitted they received my money, but they can't transfer it to my account until i provide tons of papers. Including shit not related to the payment in any way.

The fucking bank. The fucking PrivatBank. Give me my money back. The money I've earned. The money I own. MY MONEY.

Bump to torture :(

I'd recommend registering as a small business, Ч.П. - you'll be paying small % income tax
and open business usd account at some place like Pumb Bank (not sure if I got the name right), wires arrive within 24hrs. from US. sometimes they may call you to come to a branch to get the wire though.

Good luck!

Serge Litehead 11-08-2011 10:45 PM

or you may try to convince best company to send you paxum instead

BIGTYMER 11-08-2011 10:48 PM

Don't use Paxum for something this important. Find a new bank. Or maybe use PayPal?

paypal's fees makes me cry some times. last time i was getting $1000 via paypal, i've paid $40 to paypal. i would prefer paypal, but their commission makes it useless, actually.

Since when can Ukraine receive and actually withdraw money from Paypal? did they start hooking up with Ukrainian banks so you can unload it straight to your bank account?

i have fully functional account for 5 years since I am a Israeli citizen. by the way, ukrainian paypal accounts have less restrictions and can accept payments now.

Find a resident of the country to walk into the bank with you and get your money.

I don't care. I wouldn't use paxum as a bank for something important. Remember ePassporte? Good times!

scubadiver626 11-09-2011 02:31 AM

I've had central banks in 2 countries get nosey and ask for info. Re. My business.

The solution has always been to incorporate and use business accounts. For some reason they don't mess with you.

Lykos 11-09-2011 06:42 AM

Thnx for headsup !

TheSquealer 11-09-2011 07:13 AM

haha.. This guy moves to a 3rd world country and is just now figuring out the most obvious shit that's been a massive problem and a total cluster fuck since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

And by the way.. yeah ,they are going to ask for a lot of info (these are the laws, not a matter of policy) and there will be delays, they're going to be unprofessional and fees and taxes are going to be retarded. Welcome to Eastern Europe.

pornguy 11-09-2011 07:36 AM

whats the bank?? Can you use Santander or HSBC?? May not have all those issues.

I would not trust PayPal either. they do tend to Limit accounts for no apparent reason.

Just Alex 11-09-2011 08:01 AM

You really had to fuck it up for me.
I woke up this morning at 5 am thinking "I wish I had bank account in Ukraine". I couldn't go to bed and kept thinking "why.. why don't I have bank account in Ukraine". So finally I was getting ready to pick up the phone and start calling banks in Ukraine when I saw this topic! Damn you !

Antonio 11-09-2011 08:02 AM

This isn't a Ukrnian phenoma, trust me. No matter what country you are in, if you are not a citizen, the banks will treat you as a criminal / person of interest unless proven otherwise.

You should've seen me trying to cash my 1st check in South Africa - I was interrogated for half an hour and after that a supervisor was called, who interrogated me for another half an hour. Pretty mich the same happened to me when I tried opening a bank account in England more than ten years ago.

no one was advising using Paxum as a bank

O MARINA 11-09-2011 08:28 AM

I am sorry you have to deal with them.

klinton 11-09-2011 08:28 AM

why won't you fly to UK and open usd bank account over there with credit card attached to it ;] ?

is it that hard for US citizens ?

TubeSubmitters 11-09-2011 08:55 AM

Tell us how you really feel.

Dirty F 11-09-2011 09:13 AM

"Do not, ever, think about a bank account in Ukraine"

Seriously? You had to use one first to come to this conclusion?

I am really sorry to hear that. I hope these news didn't hurt you a lot, and you won't spend too much for the therapist.

The reason I moved here is that my wife and kid are living in Ukraine, and also I was born here. I love my homeland but unfortunately, its fucked up in all aspects of fucking up. I mean, totally.

I have talked to my boss today and he said he will do his best to help me to get a paxum account. Also, I am going to Prague soon to open a bank account in a normal European country. Additionally, I never been there before and I want to see that beautiful country.

potter 11-09-2011 09:17 AM

oh noes. they want you to fill out a bunch of paper work to accept an international wire transfer. no shit huh?

why not just fill out the paper work and get on with your life.

Just give the bank manager a backhander, that's how things get done in Ukraine.
