The thread title is misleading and speculative at best.

That could be bad news for Microsoft, which locked down bing.xxx as a non-resolver. Facebook, likewise, signalled its intention to stay clean by taking facebook.xxx permanently out of circulation.

Why don't they redirect those domains to the .com?

DamageX 12-12-2011 12:09 PM

This could get interesting.

PornMD 12-12-2011 12:11 PM

They'll probably just redirect it to the .com. I'm kind of surprised MS wouldn't be doing the same with Bing vs. blocking reg.

porno jew 12-12-2011 12:15 PM

They may have removed it if some facts were in dispute.

From theregister.

Quote:

Google has ruled out ever launching a website at youtube.xxx, but the same cannot be said for google.xxx, according to domain name Whois records.

The new .xxx web address suffix went live last week, and with it a flurry of data about registrations made during its trademark-protection "sunrise" phase became accessible.

Records now show that the address youtube.xxx was set aside as a non-resolving "Sunrise B" trademark block, under ICM Registry's three-pronged defensive registration scheme.

All Sunrise B domains are permanently locked down and the Whois records display ICM's name instead of the name of the company that paid for the block.

Because the blocks were sold without annual recurring fees, ICM had made it clear that Sunrise B was not a way for domain speculators to cheaply acquire investments.

Under ICM's rules, in other words, there will be no way for Google to ever convert youtube.xxx into a resolving domain name, so we'll never see a website at that address.

But while youtube.xxx is gone for good, that's not true of google.xxx. Google has registered that address as a standard-issue resolving domain name. While visiting the URL google.xxx currently returns an error message, the underlying Whois data shows Google as the official registrant.

This means Google will be free to use it for a live website in future, if it decides to launch an adults-only version of its search engine.

That could be bad news for Microsoft, which locked down bing.xxx as a non-resolver. Facebook, likewise, signalled its intention to stay clean by taking facebook.xxx permanently out of circulation. ICM itself plans to launch a porn search engine at search.xxx in the near future.

The Whois record for twitter.xxx currently suggests that the domain has been held by ICM as a "premium" name that will be auctioned in future. ICM told us, however, that the data is wrong, and that it has no plans to sell off Twitter's name. ®

Jakez 12-12-2011 03:41 PM

Looks like it's just a safety measure.. and they don't want everyone to make a big deal of it. Can't blame them when things like benandjerrys.xxx (made-up example) are being bought just in case.
